Ipswich vs Southampton prediction, odds, tips & team news

There’s a fascinating relegation battle when Ipswich Town host Southampton at Portman Road on Saturday 1st February at 3pm. Both sides sit in the relegation zone after 22 games played, though Southampton are in a much more precarious position than their hosts. It’s a must-not-lose for both sides.
Ipswich to Win & BTTS (5/2 with Midnite)
Ipswich will know that if they are to stay up this season, they need to be beating Southampton at home. McKenna will have his troops bang up for this one and they can come out on top against a side that has collected just six points all season.
For Southampton, there has been a significant improvement in their attacking play since Ivan Juric took over in December. Five of their 16 league goals this season have come in their last five matches and they should be able to get on the scoresheet against an Ipswich side who have conceded 14 goals across their last four.
Liam Delap to be Carded (14/5 with Midnite)
Only Wolves’ João Gomes (51) has conceded more fouls in the Premier League this season than Ipswich’s Liam Delap (48). His average of 2.6 fouls per 90 minutes is the most by a striker in one campaign since Ashley Barnes in 2020-21 (3.1).
Delap has been shown eight yellow cards in the Premier League this season, with only Sasa Lukic and Flynn Downes have collecting more over the course of the campaign. Five of his yellow cards have arrived in his last eight games and he makes appeal here in a must-win game for Ipswich.

How both teams go into Ipswich vs Southampton
After 23 games of the 2024-25 Premier League season, Southampton may already be planning for life back in the Championship. Saints are rooted to the bottom of the table with just six points. There’s a genuine risk of them being the worst side in Premier League history. Ivan Juric’s men have lost their six games, which includes a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in which they led until late in the game. It was a sickening blow for Saints, who may have been dreaming of building up a run off the back of the potential victory.
Ipswich aren’t doing much better. Although the Tractor Boys beat Chelsea not too long ago, they haven’t been able to build on it. Ipswich have taken one point from their past four games, losing their last three. It leaves them in the relegation zone one point from safety.
Ipswich team news
Sam Szmodics is expected to miss out for Ipswich, with Conor Chaplin also a few weeks away from fitness. Chiedozie Ogbene is out for the season. Leif Davis is a doubt after suffering from illness.
Southampton team news
Ross Stewart is out for the visitors. Aaron Ramsdale and Tyler-Jay Dibling have been passed fit, while Jack Stephens faces a late fitness test.
Ipswich vs Southampton head-to-head
Ipswich are unbeaten in their pat three games against Southampton, though that includes two wins in the Championship last season. The pair drew 1-1 at St Mary’s earlier this season.
