Ipswich Town vs Man City prediction, stats, tips and team news

Ipswich Town and Manchester City lock horns in the Premier League on Sunday, 19th January, at 4:30pm (UK time). The match will be broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event. Check out our match preview and best bets for the game.

Phil Foden to Score Anytime (9/4 with Sky Bet)

Having failed to score in his first 11 league outings this season, Man City’s Phil Foden has netted four goals in his last five and is looks like he is coming into some form. He’s looking to score in three consecutive league games for the first time since October 2022. At 9/4 he looks a little overpriced in the anytime scorer market. It’s also worth noting that Man City have won 20 of their last 21 Premier League games against promoted sides since losing 2-1 to Leeds United in April 2021, with the only exception in this run being a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest in February 2023.

Liam Delap to be Carded (3/1 with bet365)

Liam Delap continues to impress at Ipswich, but I’m backing him to pick up a card on Sunday. No Ipswich payer has found themselves in the book more times this term than the forward. Only two players in the entire league have more cards than Delap this season. After seven in 19, I like his chances with plenty of defensive duties on the cards against City.

How both teams go into Ipswich Town vs Manchester City

Ipswich Town have picked up some handy results in recent weeks, beating Chelsea 2-0 and drawing 2-2 with Fulham in their last two league matches, while they beat Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup. The tractor boys were beaten 2-0 by Brighton on Thursday, and as a result, they remain in the relegation zone on goal difference.

Man City, meanwhile, looked to have put their wretched run behind them, beating Leicester and West Ham. Pep Guardiola’s side gave Salford City an 8-0 thrashing in the FA Cup last weekend before they made the trip to Brentford midweek. City had a two-goal lead heading into the last ten minutes but came away with only a point after goals from Yoanne Wissa and Christian Norgaard. After 21 matches, City sit sixth in the table, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool who have played one game fewer.

Ipswich Town team news

Ipswich will still have some injury problems for this match, with Axel Tuanzebe, Omari Hutchinson and Chiedozie Ogbene definitely sidelined. Kalvin Phillips is unable to play against his parent club, while Sammie Szmodics will be assessed closer to kick-off.

Manchester City team news

Oscar Bobb is expected back at the start of February, while Ruben Dias and John Stones are nearing a return. Rodri is out for the season.

City’s 4-1 win over Ipswich in August was the first meeting between these sides since 2002.
