The stats behind our Aston Villa vs Tottenham predictions:
- Tottenham have drawn more away games than any other side in the Premier League this season.
- All nine of Douglas Luiz’s Premier League goals this season have come at Villa Park.
- Spurs have scored in every Premier League game this season but have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven on the road.
Villa to make it four in a row?
After a rivalry that was mainly dominated by Tottenham through the years (where they won eight of the nine meetings between these two sides between 2015 and 2022), Villa have had the better of the last three Premier League meetings by winning each one. It’s the first time they had recorded three consecutive victories over Spurs since 1996 and with their impressive home form under Unai Emery they will be confident of making it four.
Tottenham however, have been difficult to beat away from home, losing the joint fewest matches on the road of any Premier League side this term (2). Ange Postecoglou’s men have won five and drawn five of their other 10 away games, with three of their last five finishing level – taking a point at the Etihad, Old Trafford and Goodison Park.
With both sides looking for a place in the top four this season, this game may go some way in helping decide which of these two teams will be playing in Europe’s top competition next term. Although if Villa were to qualify for the Europa League, they would at least have a good chance of winning the competition with Unai Emery in charge.
Aston Villa vs Tottenham match tip
Douglas Luiz to score anytime
Douglas Luiz has found his shooting boots in the Premier League this season, well at Villa Park at least. The Brazilian has scored nine times in the league so far in 2023/24 with all nine coming at home. He has scored more league goals this term than in his three previous seasons combined (8), while only Mohamed Salah (11) has scored more times on home soil than Douglas Luzi (9) so far this campaign.
Aston Villa vs Tottenham odds
*Odds correct as of 19:40 on February 26
Aston Villa go into this match as slight favourites after winning each of the last three games between these two sides, but Villa Park isn’t as formidable as it once was with Unai Emery’s side losing three of their last four home games across all competitions. Each of Spurs’ last two games have both finishes as a draw.
