Aston Villa and Chelsea meet at Villa Park in what could be a big game for the Premier League top four race at 5:30pm on Saturday 22nd February.
Chelsea are currently sixth and are in inconsistent form, while Aston Villa are just four points behind in ninth. It’s a tight battle, though. This game will be broadcast live in the United Kingdom on Sky Sports Premier League.

How both teams go into Aston Villa vs Chelsea
The top four race is heating up. Aston Villa go into this game down in ninth, not quite living up to their performance last season. But they are only five points outside the top four and could gain significant ground against a rival. The Villans are winless in their past five league games, including a 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers. But Aston Villa have been rebuilding Fortress Villa Park. After losing their first home game of the season, Villa are unbeaten in their past 13 matches at Villa Park, including a 2-2 draw against leaders Liverpool last time out. For all the positivity around the club, Unai Emery knows his side need to start picking up wins again soon if they’re to repeat their Champions League dream — notwithstanding winning that competition this season, of course.
Chelsea aren’t exactly a bastion of consistency themselves, however. Enzo Maresca’s side have won just two of their last nine Premier League matches to slip to sixth place, although they still trail City in fourth by just one point. What’s more, the Blues head to Villa Park off the back of consecutive defeats to Brighton, 2-1 in the FA Cup and 3-0 in the Premier League. In fact, Chelsea are winless in any of their last six away matches across all competitions, losing four — including their last three — and drawing two.
Aston Villa team news
Matty Cash returned to action from the bench against Liverpool, while Ollie Watkins has gone the full 90 minutes and scored in Villa’s last two Premier League matches. However, the hosts will remain without Boubacar Kamara. Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres, Ross Barkley, Leon Bailey and Amadou Onana could all be fit to feature.
Chelsea team news
Benoit Badiashile may not be back in time for this game, while Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, Marc Guiu, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana and David Fofana are all definitely out. Malo Gusto should be fine despite picking up a knock against Brighton last time out.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea head-to-head
Chelsea are unbeaten in their past four games against Aston Villa, after losing two in a row. The Blues are also unbeaten in their past four visits to Villa Park, winning three.
