How both teams go into Arsenal vs PSV

This looks set to be a strange match. Arsenal go into the game with a six-goal advantage and more than one foot in the quarter-finals. In securing their 1-7 away win in the first leg, Arsenal became the first team in Champions League history to score at least seven goals away from home in a knockout stage match. It was also the first time Arsenal had scored seven goals in a game across all competitions since December 2012. So now we essentially have a dead rubber. Even if Arsenal rotate heavily, it would take a big fall for the Gunners to lose by at least seven goals. The biggest comeback in Champions League history is a four-goal deficit, the famous Remontada of Barcelona against Paris Saint-Germain. And Arsenal are perfect at home in the Champions League this season, with four wins from four, and four clean sheets.

For PSV, this will now be about saving face. The Dutch champions have been an interesting team in the Champions League this season, drawing with Paris Saint-Germain and beaten Liverpool in the group stage. They then knocked Juventus out in the knockout phase play-offs. But the key to their success has been their home form, which was ripped up in the first leg. Away from home, PSV have managed just one win from five games in the Champions League, beating Red Star Belgrade in the group stage.

Arsenal team news

Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Kai Havertz will be unavailable for Arsenal until next season. Bukayo Saka is also expected to miss this game, though he is closing in on a return. Gabriel Martinelli won’t be back until after the international break. Arsenal could rotate heavily for this game, given their lead.

PSV team news

Sergino Dest, Malik Tillman and Ricardo Pepi are the only absentees for PSV.

Arsenal vs PSV head-to-head
