How both teams go into Arsenal vs Chelsea
Neither of these London rivals are where they would have wanted to be ahead of the international break. Arsenal are still Liverpool‘s closest challengers in the race for the Premier League title, but they’re 15 points behind the league leaders. And even though Liverpool have played a game more, this is Arsenal’s match in hand. The damage was done for Arsenal in a two-game spell which saw the Gunners pick up just one point, including defeat in their last home game against West Ham United. But Arsenal haven’t lost consecutive home league games since March-April 2022.
Visiting the Emirates are a Chelsea team that can’t buy a win on the road. The Blues are now winless in their past six away league games, losing four. They’ve lost their past three away games going into this game, and it’s costing them in the race for Champions League football. Chelsea do remain fourth, just two points ahead of Man City and two points behind third. There is a chance that fifth could be enough to secure qualification to the Champions League. But, Chelsea are also just four points clear of eighth-placed Aston Villa, who beat the Blues in their most recent away game. It’s far too close for comfort.
Arsenal team news
Arsenal do not want to risk Bukayo Saka and will wait until after the international break to bring him back into the first team. Gabriel Martinelli also won’t be back until after the break, while Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Takehiro Tomiyasu are out for the season.
Chelsea team news
Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, Romeo Lavia and Marc Guiu are all out until after the international break for Chelsea. Trevoh Chalobah may be able to return from injury.
Arsenal vs Chelsea head-to-head
Arsenal are unbeaten in their past six games against Chelsea, winning four. They’ve also won the past two meetings at the Emirates, since a 0-2 Chelsea win in August 2021.
