Although not as prestigious as Italy’s top tier of league football, Serie A, the Coppa Italia is perhaps the most romantic trophy available in one of Europe’s most football-crazed countries.

While the league has tended to be dominated by the might of Juventus (until recently), perennially challenged by one of a handful of other teams, the Coppa Italia provides the chance for lesser clubs to challenge not only for silverware, but also for the right to compete in European football as the nation’s domestic cup winner.

Unsurprisingly, Juventus have won the competition more than any other team, but as we saw with Lazio’s victory in 2019, Napoli in 2020 and Inter for the past two seasons, this competition can mean so much to supporters and managers with a point to prove.

Other winners since the turn of the century have included Roma, Fiorentina and Parma and and the chance to overcome Juventus over 90 minutes in a cup tie can prove to be much more achievable than overcoming them in a 38 game title race, which means this tournament can capture the imagination of fans not just in Italy, but across the globe a little easier.

Of course, Juve are no longer the dominant force in Serie A, with Milan and Inter forming a recent duopoly on the Scudetto, before Napoli took their first title since the heady days of Diego Maradona last season.

The 2023/24 Coppa Italia is now hitting the round of 16, with the top eight seeded Serie A teams from last season finally entering — completing the participants. Up until this point, Napoli, Lazio, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Atalanta, Roma, Juventus and Fiorentina had all watched on from the sidelines, but now their business begins.

Lazio and Fiorentina are already through to the quarter-finals, beating Genoa and Parma respectively, while Cremonese are the only non-Serie A side left in the competition. Unlike other domestic cups, the draw for the Coppa Italia has been completed to the final, with teams knowing who stands in their way. We could have a Milan derby in the semi-finals should both teams get through their ties, while a Roma win over Cremonese would set up a quarter-final against rivals Lazio. We could also see Juventus taken on Napoli in the quarter-finals should they beat Salernitana and Frosinone respectively.

When do you release your Coppa Italia predictions?

The round of 16 is a prime example of how Coppa Italia works, with large gaps between fixtures. The round of 32 ended at the start of November, and while the round of 16 has started, it doesn’t finish until the start of January. So don’t be surprised to see periods where there are no odds or tips available for the next round. However, as the games draw closer, we will look to have our tips on this page around 48 hours in advance of kick-off.

As we reach the final stages of the competition you can expect to find Coppa Italia predictions articles with all of the stats, odds, form and insight from our expert analysts in the match centre. Whether it’s a showpiece final between two of the biggest clubs in the country, or two relative underdogs fighting for a place in the final stages, we’ve got your covered with our Coppa Italia betting tips right here.

Today’s Coppa Italia betting tips

Looking for the Italian Cup tips on the games taking place today? We look to have our tips ready at least 48 hours in advance of kick-off, so coming to this page on match-day will show you the tips we have available for today’s Coppa Italia matches.

But we won’t just offer betting tips on this page. In the biggest games, you can bet that we’ll have special match previews, bursting with all the information you need to place your bet, from Coppa Italia stats, odds, betting offers, a scoreline prediction and most importantly of all – our betting tips.

Coppa Italia Inplay betting tips

Show me a punter who doesn’t love the inplay options now available to them and we will show you a liar. It used to be so difficult to get a mid-match bet placed, but now with the easy to use apps available, betting on the action as it unfolds in front of your eyes has never been easier.

As the odds change dependent on what’s happening out on the pitch, so do your thoughts on what will happen next. Our social media team often picks out the best in play bets for you to place, be that in Serie A or any of the myriad of other leagues we cover. But more on that later.

Full Time Results

Still the most popular market when it comes to match betting, this is simply betting on the outcome of the game – be that a home win, away win or draw. It’s always worth checking the form before placing your win-draw-win bet – just because a team is sitting pretty towards the top of the Serie A table in the later stages of the season, it doesn’t mean that they haven’t been in dreadful form and haven’t lost their last five games and vice versa, teams towards the bottom can often be in better form than you may imagine based on their league position.

It’s worth noting that these differ from correct score bets, where you predict the final scoreline of the match. These bets offer greater value than simply better on the outcome but the reason for that of course is the fact that there is a much higher margin of error.

Both Teams to Score

Arguably the second-most popular bet with punters after the Full Time Result bets is Both Teams To Score. Here, you’re simply backing both teams to find the net within the 90 minutes – or alternatively you can back ‘no’ on this bet if you expect one of the teams to keep a clean sheet. Atalanta have to be the team to back in this particular market in Italy!

To Score a Header

Some markets that have emerged as particularly popular in the last few years is the method with which you can back a team to score or indeed a player to score. There are fewer better sights in football than a well-timed header nestling into the back of the net and you can now back players to manage this during a match.

Player Total Shots

Squawka is of course known for it’s stats-based analysis and that’s why we’re delighted to see so many player stats markets available on betting not just in Serie A, but in every one of Europe’s major leagues at the moment. You can now, for example, bet on a player to take a certain amount of shots within 90 minutes, or even on them to reach a certain amount of those strikes on target.

Player Total Tackles

And another player stat market you can now bet on is player total tackles. Backing a player to win a certain amount of tackles in a match could be seen as risky – but not if you do your research. You’re best off looking for defenders or midfielders who are set to come up against-dribble happy opponents, but also of course it’s intelligent to look at who the best tacklers in the league are.

Bookings

You can back many different bookings bets these days too, from which team will receive the most bookings, how many total cards will be shown in the match, how many booking points there will be and indeed you can even bet on certain players to be shown a card.

Player Offsides

Expecting a player to be caught behind the line of defence and see the flag raised on him a few times? You can now back players to be caught offside a certain amount of times in a match and what’s more, with VAR in operation over in Italy, those players are likely to be caught out more than ever now.

Corners Taken

Corners have taken on a special significance within betting in recent years, much like cards bets. You can often combine the two for match-specials, but if you check the stats Napoli are leading the way in Serie A this term with 99 corners, while Genoa have the fewest (42).

VAR Specials

VAR has been in operation in Italian football in the last couple of seasons and has proven to be as controversial as we have come to expect across the whole continent at this point. Different brands offer different VAR specials, so check what’s available if you expect the cameras to wreak havoc on the big games this season.

Both teams to score and Over/Under 2.5 goals are two other markets that a lot of punters look to utilise when curating an Italian football accumulator and most bookmakers will offer these as specially selected coupons. Be sure to check the numbers first – which teams are most likely to see both teams find the net or few goals scored in their match? It makes all the difference to be clued up before you place your bet, which is where we come in!
