Today’s EFL Championship tips
Our expert Championship tips for today are selected with care. We assess statistical analysis, current player form, team momentum, and opposition defensive weaknesses. Each of our Championship tips undergoes rigorous research to ensure we’re backing selections with genuine value.
Dean SmithBristol City and Blackburn Rovers have met five times across two seasons without a single draw, each game open and stretched. The Robins attack with width at Ashton Gate, while Blackburn have drawn three of their four away games and will happily commit men forward. End-to-end games like these tend to force corners at both ends, and the delivery should flow throughout. At evens, over 10.5 corners is the value play on a lively midweek night in Bristol.
Dean SmithScott Twine is Bristol City’s chief creator from midfield and dead-ball situations, and this is a fixture that reliably produces chances, with the sides’ last five meetings all ending with a winner. The Robins should see plenty of the ball at Ashton Gate against a Blackburn side that has managed just one clean sheet all season, so Twine ought to fashion openings. At 19/4 to register an assist, the playmaker offers real value.
Dean SmithZeki Amdouni leads the Burnley line and faces a Charlton side yet to win in five and shaky away from home, where they have lost two of their four trips. The hosts rattled in four at Watford last time out and should create a steady flow of chances at Turf Moor against limited opponents. Amdouni is their focal point and the likeliest name on the scoresheet. At 6/4 to score anytime, the striker is the standout pick.
Dean SmithBurnley have the firepower to pull clear here, fresh from a 4-0 win at Watford, while Charlton have failed to score in three games this season and look short of a cutting edge on their travels. The hosts should control at Turf Moor and keep a modest visiting attack quiet, just as a clean, comfortable home win suggests. At 7/1, a 2-0 scoreline is the value call against a struggling Charlton.
Dean SmithBoth teams found the net in each of the sides’ two meetings last season, a 2-2 and a 2-3, and there is little to suggest a shut-out here. Wrexham have scored in most games at the Racecourse while West Brom carry a threat even in defeat, having lost their last two. With neither defence watertight, goals at both ends look the likeliest outcome. At 4/5, both teams to score is the solid starting point in Wales.
Dean SmithWrexham should fancy home advantage against a West Brom side that has slipped to back-to-back defeats and looked vulnerable. The Baggies will offer a threat, and the recent head-to-heads have been tight and high-scoring, so a visiting goal is likely. A 2-1 home win fits both the Racecourse atmosphere and the Baggies’ dip in form. At 17/2, the scoreline is the value call on a lively Tuesday night.
Dean SmithRaul Jimenez leads the Wolves line and should carry their threat at a Molineux where they are yet to be beaten, winning two and drawing one of their three home games. Bolton have conceded 17 goals already and arrive on the back of a defeat, so chances should fall the striker’s way. Jimenez is the home side’s main man in front of goal. At 5/6 to score anytime, the Mexican is the soundest pick on the card.
Dean SmithWolves are unbeaten at Molineux and have the quality to see off a Bolton side beaten by Stoke last time out and shipping goals freely. The hosts should control proceedings and keep a modest visiting attack at arm’s length, with a clean sheet well on the cards given their home solidity. A comfortable 2-0 home win fits the gap in class. At 13/2, the scoreline is the value call in the Black Country.
Dean SmithZan Vipotnik has led the line for a Swansea side sitting top of the table and beaten just once on their travels. Millwall are solid at The Den, so this should be tight, but the leaders carry a genuine goal threat and Vipotnik is their main source of it. Whether Swansea win or share the spoils, the striker is well placed to get on the scoresheet. At 7/4 to score anytime, he looks the value pick.
Dean SmithJosh Tymon provides width and quality delivery from the left for a Swansea side that has scored in all but two games this season. Millwall have kept four clean sheets and will make life awkward, but the leaders should still fashion their chances, and Tymon is a prime creator from open play and set-pieces. In a game Swansea will look to control, an assist is a live possibility. At 13/2, Tymon offers appeal.
Dean SmithYousef Salech leads the Cardiff line and comes up against a Watford defence that has conceded in every away game and shipped four at home to Burnley last time out. The Bluebirds are unbeaten at home and should carve out chances against visitors low on confidence. Salech is their focal point and the likeliest to profit. At evens to score anytime, the striker is the standout pick against a leaky, out-of-sorts Watford.
Dean SmithWatford have lost their last three and failed to score in four games this season, while Cardiff are yet to taste defeat at home, winning one and drawing three there. With the visitors offering so little going forward and the hosts solid on their own patch, a clean-sheet home win is a real possibility. A controlled Cardiff victory without conceding fits the form. At 5/2, Cardiff to win to nil is the value call.
Dean SmithAugust Priske is Birmingham’s joint top scorer in the league with two goals, and he faces a Preston side rooted to the bottom, beaten in three of their last four and with 16 goals conceded. Blues have drawn all four home games but keep creating chances, and against the division’s bottom side a first home win could finally arrive. Priske has become a regular threat in the box, and he is 7/5 with bet365 to find the net at St Andrew’s.
Dean SmithBirmingham have been frustrated at home, held to four draws, but bottom club Preston are a different proposition to earlier visitors, winless in four and short of belief. The Blues should finally convert territory into a win, though a Preston side that nicked a goal at QPR may reply. A 2-1 home win breaks the draw run and fits the gap. At 15/2, the scoreline is the value call.
Dean SmithNeither of these sides has failed to score in a single game this season, and something has to give between two of the division’s form teams. Stoke have won four of their last five while Middlesbrough are unbeaten in five, and both attack with intent. With two confident, free-scoring sides meeting, the goals should flow at the bet365 Stadium. At 9/5, over 3.5 goals is the value play in a game that promises plenty of chances.
Dean SmithStoke are strong at home while Middlesbrough have the division’s second-best record, and with neither defence shutting teams out this looks a game for both ends. The hosts have scored in every match, as have Boro, so a high-scoring stalemate between two well-matched sides has real appeal. A 2-2 draw fits two teams who always find the net. At 12/1, the correct score is the value call in the Potteries.
Dean SmithPortsmouth throw everything at teams in front of their home crowd, and Sheffield United are organised and happy to soak pressure before breaking, a recipe for set-pieces at both ends. These sides have produced tight, physical meetings, and a packed Fratton Park tends to force corners as the hosts chase an elusive win. With Pompey pressing and the Blades counter-attacking, the flag count should climb. At 10/11, over 10.5 corners is the value play.
Dean SmithThis has been a prickly fixture, with Portsmouth yet to beat the Blades in four and desperate to put that right in front of their own fans. High-stakes, physical Championship games like this regularly test the referee, and a charged Fratton Park atmosphere only adds to the tension. With plenty on the line and little love lost, the bookings should mount. At 4/1, over 5.5 total cards is the value angle on a fiery night.
Dean SmithNorwich have shipped 19 goals, more than anyone in the division, and have kept no clean sheets, while Southampton have scored in every game and found the net 20 times this season. Saints have struggled to win away but they have found the net consistently, and the Canaries are generous at the back. With one porous defence and two willing attacks, goals look nailed on. At 6/5, over 3.5 goals is the value play.
Dean SmithMohamed Toure is a creative spark for a Norwich side that scores freely at Carrow Road but concedes just as readily. Against a Southampton defence that has kept only one clean sheet all season, the Canaries should carve out openings in what shapes as an open, end-to-end affair. In a game set up for goals, Toure is well placed to lay one on. At 10/3 to register an assist, he offers real value.
Dean SmithNeither QPR nor Derby has been winning, and nervy, must-not-lose games between sides under pressure tend to be scrappy and stop-start. QPR have drawn their last four and Derby are winless themselves, so expect a cagey contest full of fouls and niggle at Loftus Road. With both desperate not to slip up, the referee should be busy. At 11/10, over 4.5 total cards is the value angle on a tense London night.
Dean SmithQPR have drawn each of their last four matches and look a side that cancels opponents out rather than blows them away, while Derby are also without a win and tough to beat on their day. Two low-scoring, out-of-form teams meeting with little between them points to another stalemate. A share of the spoils has plenty going for it. At 14/5, the draw is the value call in a game that screams caution.
Dean SmithJarrod Bowen spearheads a West Ham side that has scored a division-high 23 goals and has not lost in five. Lincoln have taken just two points from four home games and shipped goals in back-to-back defeats, so the Hammers should have joy at Sincil Bank. Bowen is their talisman and the most likely to find the net. At 7/5 to score anytime, the forward is the standout pick against a Lincoln side struggling on its own patch.
Dean SmithWest Ham carry far more firepower than Lincoln, boasting the most goals in the division, but the hosts have kept four clean sheets and should offer some resistance at Sincil Bank. The Hammers ought to have too much, though a home goal is likely given Lincoln’s threat on their own turf. A 2-1 away win fits the gap in quality and Lincoln’s spirit. At 15/2, the scoreline is the value call.

Championship 26/27 season preview
The 2025/26 Championship season concluded with Coventry City claiming the title in emphatic fashion. Their blend of tactical organisation, consistency and a clinical attack kept them ahead of the pack. As a result, they secured automatic promotion. Ipswich Town joined them in the Premier League, bouncing back at the first attempt. Their campaign balanced defensive solidity with attacking flair. The play-offs provided a dramatic finale as Hull City triumphed. They overcame fierce competition to claim the final promotion spot, defying the odds once more.
At the other end of the table, relegation was harsh but clear. Oxford United, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday all endured difficult campaigns and dropped into League One. Their prolonged struggles left them with little chance of a late recovery.
Looking ahead to the 2026/27 season, the Championship promises another intense and unpredictable campaign. Several sides are already positioned as favourites in the betting markets. West Ham, Burnley and Wolves join the cast list from the Premier League. Meanwhile, Lincoln City, Cardiff City and Bolton Wanderers prepare for life in the second tier after winning promotion last term.
With Coventry City and Ipswich Town having moved up, West Ham have been installed as favourites to be crowned champions. Wolves and Burnley sit close behind in the outright market. Other clubs with top-six experience, such as Southampton, Middlesbrough and Norwich City, could also challenge. However, they must strengthen wisely and find consistency. Newly promoted sides from League One often face a steep adjustment, but a well-drilled Lincoln side may defy that expectation.
At the bottom, survival will be fiercely contested. The Championship has grown increasingly competitive, and teams that fail to start strongly often struggle. Clubs like Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth may find themselves under pressure early if results do not go their way. Newly promoted sides must adapt quickly, too. History suggests that even competitive squads can be dragged into the relegation scrap if they underestimate the step up.

Championship in-play betting tips
With so many Championship games now broadcast live, the league provides a great opportunity for some in-play betting tips.
This method of wagering allows you to tailor your bets to the unfolding action. It works whether that’s a high-profile play-off second-leg or a tussle at the bottom of the table.
Full time results
The Championship is often called a league where any team can beat another. That certainly can be the case. However, this means there is often great value in the Full Time Results markets. These are also known as win-draw-win bets.
Many games take place at the same time, either at 3pm on a Saturday or 7.45pm on a Tuesday evening. As a result, this market also offers ample opportunity for a Championship accumulator.
Both teams to score
Both teams to score has become a very popular bet in recent years. It stays alive until the final whistle. The premise is simple – you’re backing both teams to find the net during the 90 minutes. Low odds are usually available in this market. Therefore, it may be worth combining a few selections for a tasty Championship accumulator on a Saturday afternoon.
These were the teams most likely to see both teams score in their games in the 2025/26 season:
- Leicester – 23/29 – 79%
- Southampton – 22/29 – 76%
- Derby County – 21/29 – 72%
Player total shots
You can even bet on the number of shots a player takes in a game. This type of bet is popular with our stats-loving Squawka experts. In the Championship, you can usually find Over/Under markets here too. These cover how many attempts at goal a player will make.
Player total tackles
As above, this bet allows you to wager on how many tackles a player will make in a match. The bookmaker sets the line, and you back over or under it.
Bookings
There are several different markets available on bookings now too. You can back a certain player to receive a booking, for example, or even a red card. Backing the total number of cards shown in a match is another option.
You can even back how many cards are shown to one team. Or you can back a team to receive more cards than their opponents. We have all the stats to support our selections in this market too.
One player to consider in this market is Watford midfielder Hamza Choudhury. He picked up no fewer than 14 yellow cards last term – the joint highest in the league.
Corners taken
You can also bet on Under/Over corner markets in 2026/27. In addition, there is the ‘Corners Match Result’ market, where you back one team to win the corner count.
Championship price boosts
Some bookmakers such as Betfair do offer boosted prices on Championship games. We’ll bring you all the latest enhanced new customer offers. In the Championship, though, you’re more likely to find offers for all customers. Sky Bet, for instance, offers specially selected boosts ahead of most Championship fixtures.
Championship accumulators
Given the research behind our Championship tips, you can feel confident placing an accumulator. This is a bet that combines your selections from several different matches for even better value. You can choose different markets on different matches should you wish. However, most punters stick to the same market. For example, you might back ten teams from five games to find the net in a Championship BTTS accumulator.
Best bookmakers for Championship betting
Every bookmaker offers a great depth of markets in this league, although some more than others. There are several other factors to take into account when deciding upon a bookmaker to back our Championship tips with. For example, how much value do their odds provide? What is their customer service like? Do they produce any Championship betting offers?
