Newcastle continued their march to safety last weekend with a 2-0 victory at Brentford that made it 13 points from the last 15 available. The North-Eastern outfit now sit 14th and four points above the bottom three. An improved defence has been huge for them with just two goals conceded in their last five. Joe Willock is finding form in midfield with a goal in each of his last two.
At home, the Magpies have won their last two defeating Everton 3-1 and then Aston Villa by one goal to nil. After this game it gets tricky with four of the next five visitors here in the top eight. Four of the last six home games have gone under 2.5 goals. Five of the last six matches at this ground have seen a goal before the break.
Brighton were poor in defeat to Aston Villa last weekend making it a third successive Premier League loss. A lack of goals is the current issue for them with blanks in each of their last three. They should have few relegation issues on 33 points but with six of the top eight still to play you wonder if they will slide. You have to go back to the 26th December for the last time they kept a clean sheet.
On the road, the Seagulls lost the last time they were on their travels going down 2-0 at Old Trafford to Man United. That loss ended a run of six away fixtures without defeat with four of these finishing all-square. The last five goals that they have scored in away games have come from different players. It has been goalless at half-time in two of their last three away matches and the one that didn’t saw a 44th minute goal.
Newcastle vs Brighton: Match Stats
The hosts are in such good form and the visitors in such bad form that it is a surprise to see such good odds on a home victory. Brentford, Villa, Leeds, Everton have all been comfortably seen off by the hosts in recent weeks. The visitors meanwhile have lost three straight and look to be on the beach already.
Joe Willock has two goals in his last two games and seems decent odds to get a goal here against Brighton. The Seagulls have not kept a clean sheet since Boxing Day and against a resurgent Magpies outfit you would not expect them to do so here. Willock has been allowed to get forward more in recent weeks and the prices haven’t caught up with this.
