A farewell to Jurgen Klopp

So here it is. After nine seasons, Jurgen Klopp will take his final farewell as Liverpool manager. It’s something that Liverpool fans have known was coming for a few months now, but a moment they will have been putting off. It’s also a bit of a quiet finish, with Liverpool falling away in the title race, and settled in third with just the EFL Cup.

The Reds have been in indifferent form of late, winning just two of their past seven league games, beating Fulham and Tottenham. There have been two defeats and three draws, all of which have been high-scoring. But Liverpool will want to send Klopp out with a victory, building on a three-match unbeaten run which has seen them score nine goals.

Klopp did win his final league game in charge of both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, but none of Liverpool’s last six managers have won their final league match at the club.

Hoping to spoil the party are a Wolves side that aren’t in good form at all. There was a time when Wolves will have been hoping for a top-half finish, but they have endured a tough run since the start of March. Gary O’Neil’s side have won just two of their past 11 league games, beating Fulham and Luton.

During that run, Wolves have lost seven matches, including each of their last two. They’ve been conceding a lot too, with eight goals put past them in their past two matches.

Liverpool vs Wolves match tip

Over 1.5 Wolves goals @ 11/4 by Lottoland

One of the biggest reason’s behind Liverpool’s struggles of late has been their defence. The Reds have been extremely leaky at the back, letting in at least two goals in each of their past four league games. On Monday against Aston Villa they conceded two goals late on to turn a 3-1 win into a 3-3 draw, which summed up their end of the season.

*Odds correct as of 18:30 on May 17. 18+ only. GambleAware.

Despite having nothing to play for, Liverpool are odds-on favourites for this game and it may be all to do with Klopp. The Reds won’t want to send the German out on a loss, or even a draw, so they will give their all in what is otherwise a dead rubber.
