Having missed out on the chance to close the gap to leaders Arsenal to just two points last weekend, the Citizens will be looking to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Spurs and get back on track at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola’s side have now played five times at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium across all competitions and are still yet to win or score at Spurs’ new stadium.

City have not lost consecutive Premier League games since December 2018 and will be hoping that run continues against a Villa side that have won all three of their Premier League away games under Unai Emery. A win here would see the Spaniard become just the second Villa manager after John Gregory to win each of his first four league away games in charge of the club.

Man City boast an impressive home record so far this term, winning nine of their 11 Premier League matches at the Etihad, picking up more points (28), scoring more goals (38) and boasting a better goal difference (+26) than any other side in the division. This match will also be boss Pep Guardiola’s 250th Premier League game as manager, with the Spaniard boasting the highest win rate of any permanent manager in Premier League history (73.5%).

The Man City manager has come under some intense scrutiny this week after Man City were charged with “numerous breaches of financial rules” but has come out fighting in his most recent press conference.

“We are already being condemned. What’s happened this week it’s the same that happened with UEFA – we were condemned, we had an acquisition then, now we have just charges. What they told me before the club proved we were completely innocent. Why should we not think we are innocent – it’s just charges rather than acquisition. You have to understand the 19 PL teams are accusing it without our opportunity to defend. Our people explain everything in the last three or four years. You know what side I’m on.”

“Another side I would say we are lucky we live in a marvellous country where everyone is innocent until proved guilty. We didn’t have this opportunity We are already sentenced. What is going to happen I don’t know. Personally I am happy we are here. “Like UEFA we have the chance to defend. I think we have good lawyers. I think the Premier League supported by 19 teams will have good lawyers too. Just in case we are not innocent we will accept what the judge in the Premier League decides but what happens if in the same situation that Uefa happened we are innocent, what happened to restore or pay back our damage?”

“Because the damage is now for one decade, eight nine 10. One week later, UEFA make a statement against us, nine teams, a letter out of the Champions League. They are not enemies or friends just interested. Now it is not different in that moment, absolutely zero, the same accusations, you have to be out of the Champions League, go to League One, no League One is too goodgo to League Two or even the Conference.” We should wait. The Premier League cannot decide. We are going to do what we did in the UEFA situation.”

“For all the big moments in the years that belong to us and our people and it’s impossible for someone to take it away. The courts will dictate what will happen. I’m fully convinced we will be innocent. Will you stop now? Since day one of the Abu Dhabi taking over the cub it’s been like this!”

The Spaniard also confirmed that the charges have made him want to stay even more in Manchester.

“I am not moving from this seat, I can assure you. I want to stay more than ever. After many, many years in the Premier League I do not want to move on.”

Man City vs Aston Villa Match Stats

Having already set countless Premier League records in his short time in England, Erling Haaland will have two more in his sights as he aims to take two away from Andy Cole. The Englishman currently holds the record for fewest games needed to score 30 goals in the competition (32) and most goals scored in his first 30 Premier League appearances (28), but with the Man City man already having found the back of the net 25 times in his first 20 appearances, these may not last too much longer.

Haaland has been unstoppable at the Etihad, scoring 21 goals in 13 league and Champions League home appearances so far, including a hat-trick in his last home match against Wolves.

Tasked with stopping Man City this weekend, Boubacar Kamara will have his work cut out in the centre of midfield for Villa this weekend. The Frenchman has made more tackles (43) than any of his teammates so far this season and has made 4+ tackles in two of his last five away matches in the Premier League (6 vs. Brighton & 7 vs. Crystal Palace).
