Paris Saint-Germain face Aston Villa in the 2026 Uefa Super Cup on Wednesday at 8pm (UK time).
The Super Cup pits the Champions League winners against the Europa League champions, as the curtain-raiser for the European club season. For the second consecutive year, PSG are kings of Europe and face English opposition in this match.
They had to score two late goals to deny Tottenham Hotspur last year, eventually beating Spurs on penalties. And now they square up to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
These sides have met twice previously, in the knockout stages of the 2024/25 Champions League. PSG avoided a late second-leg scare to beat Villa 5-4 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, en route to lifting the trophy.

Luis Enrique looks set to have his full squad available for Super Cup. The Ligue 1 champions gave extra recovery time to some of their stars following the World Cup this summer. But the Parisians’ social media accounts have shown the likes of Achraf Hakimi, Lucas Hernandez, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele, Warren Zaire-Emery and Fabian Ruiz back at their training centre.
Joao Neves, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, Ibrahima Mbaye and Marquinhos had already returned to training. Just how many of those players are deemed ready to start remains to be seen, however.
There is added narrative to this game. Lucas Digne — signing from Aston Villa for £7million — is expected to go straight into the squad. Fellow new arrival Maghnes Akliouche is also set to feature in the squad.

Digne wasn’t the only significant departure for Villa this summer. Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans have also left, leaving Aston Villa’s midfield short. Rogers played more Premier League minutes than any other Villa player last season.
The Villans’ own World Cup stars are also doubts for this game. Emiliano Martinez, Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins are all yet to feature in pre-season after going deep in the tournament.
Midfielder Amadou Onana suffered an ACL injury at the World Cup and will be out long-term. Club-record signing Johan Manzambi is also set to miss the match through injury. Joao Gomes has come from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer and the Brazilian should see action in Villa’s engine room.
