Their European route was anything but straightforward. An 11th-place finish in the league phase and squeezed past Monaco in a 5- 4 play-off, but they grew into an irresistible force as the knockouts wore on.
Victory in Salzburg would make PSG only the second club in the modern era to win consecutive UEFA Super Cups, after Real Madrid in 2016 and 2017. The one caveat is fitness: several key men returned late from World Cup duty, so Luis Enrique must balance his strongest side against the demands of sustaining PSG’s trademark pressing.

Villa enter their first competitive fixture since completing one of the great seasons in the club’s modern history. Emery’s side finished fourth in the Premier League to seal a Champions League return, then beat Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League final in Istanbul to land their first major European trophy since the early 1980s.
They have lifted the Super Cup before, too, beating Barcelona 3-1 on aggregate in 1982/83.
