Argentina will be looking to round off a perfect World Cup 2026 group stage when they face Jordan on Sunday at 3am (UK time).
The defending champions have already booked their place in the knockout stages and have top spot guaranteed. They opened their title defence with a 3-0 win over Algeria, courtesy of a Lionel Messi hat-trick. Messi also also integral in Argentina’s second win, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over Austria. Lionel Scaloni may be tempted to rotate his team, with nothing to play for.
This will be Jordan’s final game at the World Cup. They go into the final round of fixtures bottom of the group, unable to finish any higher due to head-to-head records. Jordan scored on their World Cup debut but were unable to stop Austria from running away with a 3-1 victory. They then opened the scoring in their next match but, again, eventually succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Algeria.
Argentina and Jordan haven’t faced off before.

Jordan vs Argentina team news
Argentina team news
Scaloni only made one change between his first two starting lineups. But he could make a handful here. It will be about finding the balance between a rotated side and still keeping momentum going ahead of the knockout stages. The main question will be the involvement of Lionel Messi, who has scored all five of Argentina’s goals so far. He may be rested for this one though, to give Julian Alvarez a chance to join Lautaro Martinez in attack.
Giuliano Simeone could get a start on the right wing, though Thiago Almada may keep his spot on the left. Leandro Paredes and Exequeil Palacios may come into the midfield to give all-action midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Alexis Mac Allister a rest. But there is a chance the pair could start and come off later in the game.
There may be a double change in defence, too. Cristian Romero suffered a knee injury in the win over Austria and had to be replaced. Although he has allayed fears, Romero may not be risked. Nicolas Otamendi will come into replace him, and Marco Senesi could also start to five Lisandro Martinez a rest. The full-backs may remain the same to counter the changes in the middle, while Emiliano Martinez may also stay in goal.

Jordan team news
Although Jordan have no qualification to play for, Jamal Sellami is likely to go for his strongest side to chase history. So he may remain unchanged from the defeat to Algeria, having done well to lead at half-time. Of course, Argentina are an entirely different prospect, but a rotated side could present an opportunity.
Ali Olwan will lead the line, flanked by Mousa Tamari and Mahmoud Al-Mardi. The former scored in the opening game against Austria, despite being deployed in a wider role. Jordan’s front line have good fluidity, which will help them whoever is in the attack. Nizar Al-Rashdan and Noor Al-Rawabdeh will continue as the central midfield partnership.
Captain Ehsan Haddad should continue as the right wing-back, with Mohannad Abu Taha on the left. The back three should remain the same from the last game too. That means Mohammad Abualnadi stays out of the team, having lost his spot to Husam Abu Dahab. Yazan Al-Arab and Abdallah Nasib should join Abu Dahab in defence, with Yazeed Abulaila in goal.
