England look to seal a place in the knockout stages when they face Ghana in Group L at the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday.

Thomas Tuchel’s were very impressive in their opening game, beating Croatia 4-2 in a high-octane match. Ghana edged past Panama 1-0 thanks to a 95th-minute winner, but must improve significantly to trouble England. Kick-off is scheduled for 9pm (UK time) on Tuesday 23rd June at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough.

England vs Ghana predictions & betting tips

Our PredictionOdds & BookmakerConfidenceWhy We’re Backing It
Score with a Header – Harry Kane11/4 @ bet365
(26.7%)
⭐⭐⭐⭐Kane has scored nine goals in his last five appearances for club and country. He led England’s attack against Croatia with seven shots and already has two World Cup goals to his name at this tournament. Ghana lost five of their last seven internationals and conceded five in a single pre-tournament friendly against Austria. England will dominate possession, and Kane will get his chances. At this price, backing England’s captain to find the net is the standout selection in this fixture.
England 10+ Shots On Target5/1 @ Betway
(16.7%)
⭐⭐England racked up 22 shots against Croatia, seven of which came from Kane alone. Ghana managed just two shots on target against Panama and are expected to sit deep in Foxborough, inviting pressure. Tuchel’s side have the width, movement and creativity to generate chances in volume against a low block. With Bellingham, Kane, Madueke and strong options from the bench, reaching double figures in shots on target looks well within reach.

Odds correct at time of writing. Please gamble responsibly.

How both teams head into England vs Ghana

England

England arrive in Foxborough in confident mood after a commanding second-half display demolished Croatia. Harry Kane scored twice, Jude Bellingham added a third, and Marcus Rashford put the result beyond doubt. Tuchel’s half-time team talk proved the turning point — England produced seven shots on target in the opening 25 minutes after the break.

The Three Lions enter this fixture knowing a win seals their knockout place with a game to spare. England have opened the scoring in 17 of their last 18 games. That relentless attacking intent, combined with a squad boasting Premier League pedigree across every position, makes them a formidable prospect.

Tuchel must tighten a defence that conceded twice to Croatia, despite both goals coming from low-probability chances. England won eight qualifying matches without conceding a single goal. That defensive excellence needs to return in Foxborough. Ghana will watch those Croatian goals and believe breaching England is possible.

Ghana

Ghana arrive in Foxborough on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama — a result that required a 95th-minute winner from 20-year-old Caleb Yirenkyi to settle. Carlos Queiroz’s side barely created before that moment, registering just two shots on target across 94 scoreless minutes. Improvement is essential.

Queiroz has quickly instilled defensive organisation that earned the Black Stars a clean sheet in their opener. The experienced Portuguese coach brings five consecutive World Cups of coaching knowledge into this fixture. His track record of building compact, disciplined shapes against elite opposition gives Ghana a fighting chance.

Their pre-tournament form, however, raises serious questions. A 5-1 thrashing by Austria and a 2-0 defeat to Mexico exposed deep defensive vulnerabilities against sides that press high and move the ball quickly. Those are precisely the conditions England will impose in Foxborough. Ghana need a result of some description to keep their knockout qualification in their own hands.

England team news

Tuchel is expected to make minimal changes after England’s four-goal opener. Jordan Pickford retains his place in goal. Marc Guehi could come in for John Stones or Ezri Konsa at centre-back following a shaky defensive display against Croatia.

Declan Rice anchors the midfield and starts regardless of rotation elsewhere. Rice reported minor discomfort after the Croatia game but is expected to be fit. Jude Bellingham operates ahead of Rice and was England’s standout performer on matchday one, scoring and recording six touches in the Croatia box.

Noni Madueke is likely to retain his starting spot on the right after winning an early penalty against Croatia. Bukayo Saka continues to manage an Achilles complaint and may again start from the bench. Harry Kane starts as captain and leads the line.

Reece James and Nico O’Reilly continue at full-back. The bench carries serious firepower — Eberechi Eze, Ollie Watkins, Marcus Rashford, and Ivan Toney all push for involvement.

Ghana team news

Queiroz faces a goalkeeping dilemma heading into Tuesday. Lawrence Ati-Zigi came off at half-time against Panama after picking up an injury. Benjamin Asare is expected to start in his place between the posts.

Thomas Partey was absent for the Panama game due to a visa issue but is expected to be available in Foxborough. His return is a significant boost for Ghana. The Villarreal midfielder anchors everything Queiroz builds — controlling tempo and protecting the defence. His absence against Panama left Ghana toothless in midfield.

Mohammed Kudus remains absent through injury. His unavailability continues to place the creative burden entirely on Antoine Semenyo. Queiroz must find a cleaner role for Semenyo, who drifted across multiple positions against Panama without real impact.

Caleb Yirenkyi keeps his place after his late winner against Panama. Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ernest Nuamah provide pace from wide areas. Jordan Ayew captains the side and leads the line.

Head-to-Head: Last Meeting

England and Ghana have met just once at senior international level — a 1-1 friendly draw at Wembley in March 2011. Asamoah Gyan cancelled out Andy Carroll’s opener that day. There is no World Cup history between these nations. Tuesday’s fixture in Foxborough is effectively a first meaningful competitive meeting between the two sides.

Will England seal qualification or will Ghana ruin their plans?

Both nations enter Tuesday’s fixture with three points and real ambition. A win for England puts six points on the board and all but ends the group stage debate. A Ghana victory would send shockwaves through Group L and set up a winner-takes-all final matchday.

We’re backing Harry Kane to add to his World Cup tally in Foxborough. 11/4 with bet365 for Kane to score a header represents strong value against a Ghana defence that has struggled badly against elite European opposition.

For a bigger price, England to have 10+ shots on target at 5/1 with Betway reflects Tuchel’s offensive approach and England’s ability in the final third.
