Germany face a tough test when they take on Ivory Coast in Group E at the 2026 World Cup on Saturday.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side asserted their dominance in their opening game, beating Curacao 7-1. Ivory Coast left it late against Ecuador but emerged with all three points thanks to a 1-0 victory. Kick off for this clash is scheduled for 9pm (UK time) on Saturday 20th June.

Germany vs Ivory Coast Predictions & Betting Tips

Our PredictionOdds & BookmakerConfidenceWhy We’re Backing It
Result/Both Teams to Score – Germany/Yes23/10 @ bet365
(30.3%)
⭐⭐⭐⭐Germany enter this match having scored seven goals in their opening game – their biggest World Cup winning margin since 2014. Ivory Coast beat France 2-1 in a pre-tournament friendly, demonstrating a genuine ability to create and score against high-quality opposition, and Amad Diallo arrives with a goal already to his name in this tournament. Germany will attack relentlessly and should win comfortably, but their defence – which conceded against every opponent in their last five matches – gives Ivory Coast a genuine route to goal. At a price significantly better than a straight Germany win, this combination carries real value.
Kai Havertz To Score 1st Goal5/1 @ William Hill
(16.7%)
⭐⭐Havertz arrives at this fixture as Germany’s standout scorer and in the most prolific run of his international career. He has scored five goals in his last five appearances for Arsenal and Germany – a remarkable streak of consistent end product at the highest level. He scored twice against Curaçao in the opener – netting from the penalty spot before adding a composed finish late on – and leads Germany’s scoring charts at this tournament. His second against Curaçao took Germany’s all-time World Cup tally to 239 goals, surpassing Brazil’s record – a moment that underlines his status as Germany’s primary attacking reference point. Nagelsmann’s system feeds through him consistently, and against an Ivory Coast side expected to sit deeper than Curaçao, Havertz’s movement in the box and penalty threat make him the likeliest scorer from the first whistle.

How both teams go into Germany vs Ivory Coast

Germany

Germany arrive in Toronto on Saturday carrying the most emphatic result of the entire tournament so far. Only five World Cup games this century have seen a nation score seven or more goals – and three of those have been by Germany. That statistic alone tells you everything about the attacking mentality Nagelsmann has instilled.

Germany head into this fixture boasting a ten-game winning streak across all competitions dating back to September 2025, scoring two or more goals in nine of those victories. A win here seals their place in the knockout round with a game to spare. However, vulnerability remains. Germany have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last seven World Cup matches since the 2014 final – a defensive fragility that Ivory Coast’s quick counter-attackers will look to exploit.

Nagelsmann himself acknowledged after the Curaçao win that there are things his side can do better – and Saturday’s match represents a far sterner examination. Germany enter as overwhelming favourites, but this is the fixture that will reveal whether they carry genuine tournament-winning credentials or simply surface-level dominance.

Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast arrive in Toronto on Saturday carrying three points and a performance that turned heads around the tournament. The Elephants controlled most of the game against Ecuador – especially in the second half – holding more possession and generating more shots than their highly fancied opponents.

Amad Diallo’s calm finish in the 90th minute gave Ivory Coast their first World Cup win in 12 years – a result that sent genuine shockwaves through Group E. Ivory Coast have never progressed beyond the group stage at a World Cup – and Saturday’s match represents the biggest obstacle standing between them and that historic landmark.

Their pre-tournament form adds genuine credibility. A 2-1 victory over France in Nantes in early June – with goals from Doue and Diallo – demonstrated real quality against elite European opposition. Fae has built a compact, resilient side that defends deep and strikes quickly on the counter – a tactical identity that could cause Germany real problems in Toronto. A point here would represent a significant achievement. Three points would be one of the results of the tournament.

Germany team news

Germany carry no injury concerns into Saturday’s fixture. It’s a clean bill of health that gives Nagelsmann a genuinely difficult selection dilemma.

Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl missed the tournament through a pre-tournament injury, but that disruption has barely registered given the depth available throughout the squad. Deniz Undav scored and registered two assists as a substitute against Curaçao – he’s pushing hard for a starting berth in Toronto. A potential Undav start could see Leroy Sané drop to the bench, with Musiala shifting right and Havertz operating as the number ten. However, Havertz looks most likely to continue up front after his brace against Curaçao.

Germany have scored first in nine of their last ten internationals, giving Nagelsmann every incentive to retain the same attacking structure.

Ivory Coast team news

Ivory Coast carry two significant selection concerns into Saturday’s fixture.

Elye Wahi will miss the game after authorities denied him permission to travel to Canada amid an investigation into alleged match-fixing. That removes their first-choice striker from the equation entirely. Evan Ndicka also remains a doubt with the hamstring injury that ruled him out against Ecuador. That leaves Fae short of his preferred defensive partnership.

Emmanuel Agbadou started in Ndicka’s absence and could retain his place alongside Singo. Amad Diallo scored the 90th-minute winner off the bench against Ecuador and now pushes hard for a starting role. That could potentially at the expense of Nicolas Pepe on the right flank. Yan Diomande may shift to the left flank to accommodate Diallo’s inclusion. Franck Kessie and Seko Fofana should continue in central midfield.

Head-to-Head: Last Meeting

These two nations have only met once in their history. Their friendly encounter in 2009 ended in a 2-2, meaning the fixture on Saturday will be the first competitive meeting and give both nations the chance to pick up their first win over the other.

Will either side find the win they need to reach the knockout stage?

Both nations winning their opening game in Group E adds a little extra spice to this match. A victory for either would all but guarantee them a place in the Round of 32.

We’re backing Germany to come out on top but we’re not they will have it all their own way. Germany to win and both teams to score comes in at 23/10 with bet365.

The other bit of value we think we’ve found is in Kai Havertz to score the first goal at 5/1 with William Hill. That’s a boosted price so jump on it to squeeze every drop of value!
