Leeds United and Chelsea face off in the Premier League on Wednesday at 8:15pm, with Darren England set to referee.
This will be England’s ninth Premier League match of the season, one of the more-used referees in the division. He was the man in the middle for Chelsea’s opening game of the new season, a draw with Crystal Palace. England hasn’t overseen a Leeds game for two years.
Chelsea go into the match third in the league, while Leeds sit down in 18th.

What happened when Darren England last refereed Leeds?
England last refereed Leeds in December 2023, a 3-2 win over Middlesbrough in the Championship. It was an action-packed game too. Darren England’s Chelsea record
This will be England’s sixth Chelsea game as a referee, and the Blues are unbeaten in the previous five. Granted, three of those have been draws, including one earlier this season. This will be the first time England has refereed Chelsea twice in the same season, and just the second time he has officiated the Blues away from home. Chelsea won their only previous away game with England as referee.

What happened when Darren England last refereed Chelsea?
As mentioned, England was the referee for Chelsea’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace on the opening weekend. And there was controversy. Crystal Palace had a goal disallowed by VAR when Eberechi Eze had scored with a free-kick. The goal was disallowed as Marc Guehi was less than one metre away from the Chelsea wall, a rule brought in six years ago. But it hadn’t been enforced by VAR until that game.
What should we expect from Darren England?
England is one of the harsher referees in the Premier League. He averages four cards per game this season and just 5.2 fouls per card. England has shown at least five cards in three of his eight Premier League matches so far.
