Aston Villa to Win (19/20 with Sky Bet)
Crystal Palace qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, but after their trip to Norway, the Villans may have the edge, and their strong home record makes them an attractive price here at just below evens.
Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last 19 home Premier League matches (W11 D8), the longest current unbeaten run on home soil of any side. The Villans last had a run of 20 or more unbeaten home league games between October 1971 and September 1972 (23), while in the top-flight they last did so between December 1922 and January 1924 (26).
Ismaila Sarr to score or assist (5/2 with Sky Bet)
Despite backing Villa to win, we still think it’s worth a small poke on Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr to score or assist in the match, at a very backable 5/2.
Sarr has either scored or assisted a goal in all six of his starts against Aston Villa in all competitions, scoring seven goals and assisting three. His 10 goal involvements against the Villans are more than he has against any other opponent in English football.
How both teams go into Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace
Unai Emery’s side agonisingly missed out on Champions League qualification last season, following a controversial 2-0 defeat against Manchester United on the final day.
After Villa embarked on a memorable run to the quarter-finals, the Spaniard will be desperate to secure his team’s return to Europe’s premier club competition by climbing back into the top four this term.
However, Villa will be slightly disappointed with their new start to the campaign. One the opening weekend they managed a goalless draw with Newcastle, before suffering a 1-0 defeat on the road at Brentford last weekend. As a result, they sit 17th in the table at this early stage.
The build-up to Palace’s season was overshadowed by their European saga, which culminated in them being relegated to the Conference League from the Europa League.
Nevertheless, it has been a while since they were involved on the continent, so the Eagles will want to ensure their place in the tournament proper.
Oliver Glasner’s side certainly have momentum on the field, having followed up their FA Cup triumph with victory in the Community Shield earlier this month and have since taken two points from a possible six in the league with draws against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.
Aston Villa team news
Ezri Konsa will be available for selection after serving a one-match suspension following his red card against Newcastle United on the opening weekend. Ross Barkley and Andres Garcia could also be in contention after injury.
Crystal Palace team news
The Eagles will be without Matheus Franca, Cheick Doucoure and Eddie Nketiah. Will Hughes faces a late fitness test, while Odsonne Edouard is currently being assessed due to pain in his achilles.
Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace head-to-head
Palace are unbeaten in each of their last five meetings with Villa in all competitions, winning four and scoring 15 goals along the way.
