Leicester City get their 2025-26 Championship campaign underway against Sheffield Wednesday at the King Power Stadium on Sunday 10th August at 4:30pm. The Foxes will be looking to seal an immediate return to the Premier League after relegation. Sheffield Wednesday finished mid-table in the Championship last season. This game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football.

Leicester Win to Nil (8/11 with William Hill)

Leicester’s defence was solid enough at the King Power in their last Championship campaign, and with Caleb Okoli coming in alongside retained centre-backs Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard, that foundation looks even stronger. Even if keeper Mads Hermansen moves on, the Foxes should have more than enough to contain what’s left of Wednesday’s forward line.

As for the visitors, Sheffield Wednesday offer little in attack. Over their final 10 matches last season, they averaged just 0.94 expected goals per game, and that was with Windass, Smith and Musaba, all of whom have since departed.

Abdul Fatawu to assist anytime (5/2 with Paddy Power)

Abdul Fatawu provided 13 assists for Leicester in the 2023-24 Championship season. The Ghanaian also provided two assists across his six starts in the Premier League last term, and with the hosts having the ability to rack up the goals, 5/2 looks an attractive price for Fatawu to record an assist.

How both teams go into Leicester vs Sheffield Wednesday

Leicester’s return to the Premier League didn’t go to plan. The Foxes suffered an immediate drop back to the Championship, continuing the recent run of promoted sides struggling. So now they’ll be looking to follow in the footsteps of Burnley in sealing automatic promotion at the first attempt. Leicester will take heart from the fact that their last stay in the Championship after relegation lasted just one season.

But they have a new man at the helm. The Ruud van Nistelrooy experiment didn’t work, and the Dutchman has been replaced by Marti Cifuentes. The Spaniard spent the past two seasons in charge of Queen’s Park Rangers, with a 34.94% win rate.

Sheffield Wednesday fans will have largely been happy with their performance last season. After a struggle in their first campaign back in the Championship in 2023-24, the Owls were a lot more stable. A 12th-placed finish saw Sheffield Wednesday nine points clear of the relegation zone and 10 outside the play-offs. In a tight battle at both ends, an average finish wasn’t too bad.

But there has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding the squad and management over the summer. The Owls have financial issues and have been handed a transfer ban, with a lot of players leaving. It hasn’t been the ideal preparation for the new campaign.

Leicester team news

Leicester have had a good summer in terms of players returning from injury, with Abdul Fatawu available for contention. But Harry Souttar looks set to remain out.

Sheffield Wednesday team news

Sheffield Wednesday will struggle for players this season and cannot afford any injuries.

Leicester vs Sheffield Wednesday head-to-head

Leicester took four points from their two games against Sheffield Wednesday in the 2023-24 season. That campaign ended a 10-season wait for a fixture between these two sides.
