Norwich vs Millwall prediction, stats, tips & team news

Norwich City host Millwall at Carrow Road in their first game of the 2025-26 Championship season on Saturday 9th August at 3pm. The Canaries finished mid-table last season while the Lions just missed out on a play-off spot. This game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports+.

Norwich to win (11/10 with 10bet)

Norwich have beaten Millwall in each of their last three meetings, and with new boss Liam Manning at the helm, optimism is high at Carrow Road. Manning’s track record, guiding Bristol City to an unexpected play-off berth, suggests he can push the Canaries into the top six. Saturday’s opener looks a prime chance to start strong, especially against a Lions side hampered by early injury problems. Norwich haven’t lost at home to Millwall in an astonishing 57 years, and they’re well worth backing to extend that streak.

Josh Sargent to score first (5/1 with bet365)

Josh Sargent scored 15 goals in the Championship last season, averaging 0.54 per 90 minutes. Transfer rumours haven’t stopped Sargent from being central to Norwich’s plans, and Liam Manning is expected to rely on his prized striker for goals this weekend. The USA international has been linked with Burnley, Leeds and Wolfsburg, but with no deal yet in place, he’ll be eager to impress. With a point to prove and potential suitors watching, Sargent looks a strong pick in the first goalscorer market for Saturday’s clash.

How both teams go into Norwich vs Millwall

It’s a new era at Norwich. Liam Manning has come in as permanent manager, replacing Jack Wilshere who had ended the 2024-25 campaign in interim charge. Johannes Hoff Thorup was in charge for most of the season but underwhelmed, with the Canaries finishing 13th.

Although it was a close season in the Championship, Norwich were neither here nor there. They finished 11 points outside the play-offs and eight points clear of the relegation zone. It came after Norwich had finished sixth in the 2023-24 season, losing in the play-off semi-finals. The Canaries are about to embark on their fourth consecutive season in the Championship. And they’ll be hoping to climb the table to return to the Premier League.

Millwall also sacked a manager last season. Club legend Neil Harris saw his time in charge of Millwall come to an end just before Christmas. Alex Neil replaced him for the start of 2025 and really turned the Lions’ fortunes around. There would still be agony for Millwall, though, as they missed out on the play-offs by two points.

Defeat to Burnley on the final day of the season ended Millwall’s hopes, though it was a hard ask against a century-changing Clarets team. But Neil now has a full pre-season behind him, looking to lead Millwall to the Premier League for the first time.

Norwich team news

Norwich have been busy in the summer transfer window, with eight new signings. Tony Springett is unlikely to return, still recovering from back surgery at the end of January.

Millwall team news

There have been three new arrivals at Millwall so far. Danny McNamara is expected to miss out due to injury.

Norwich vs Millwall head-to-head

These two sides traded home wins in the Championship last season. Millwall have won two of the past three, but Norwich generally fare well against the Lions.
