The 10 best Man Utd kits of the Premier League era

Manchester United have already released their home and away kits for the 2025-26 Premier League season.

Over the years, the Red Devils have worn some truly iconic shirts – and a few they’d probably rather forget – like the grey away kit from 1995-96. But when the designers get it right, they really get it right.

So what are the top 10 Man Utd kits of the Premier League era?

10. 2009-10 home kit

Maybe a divisive one at the time, but it’s aged well. The red shirt with the black chevron was a nice touch by Nike, as they commemorated 100 years since Man Utd first moved to Old Trafford.

The black V design across the chest was a nod to Newton Heath’s 1909 FA Cup-winning kit. The detail might’ve felt forced to some, but it stands out in a sea of similar Man Utd kits.

9. 2017-18 away kit

This black away strip flew under the radar at the time, but on second look, it’s a beauty. The tonal graphic print across the body, inspired by the 1992 away kit, gave it a retro-modern edge.

Combined with black shorts and socks, it was sleek and simple, and has become iconic among fans even without major silverware that season.

8. 2022-23 third kit

Bright green rarely works in any form of clothing, to be honest. But somehow, Man Utd made it look good.

The neon third kit was surprisingly popular, especially among younger fans. It might’ve looked like a goalkeeper top at first glance, but its bold design made it a fan favourite that season.

7. 1993-94 away kit

One of the earliest classics of the Premier League era, this black and gold number was as intimidating as it was stylish.

It had a very 90s vibe with oversized Umbro logos and the distinctive collar. Plus that Sharp sponsor just looked right. Worn by legends like Eric Cantona and Paul Ince, it’s steeped in nostalgia.

6. 2015-16 home kit

Adidas returned as kit makers this season, and their first attempt in over two decades was a hit.

A clean red design with subtle tonal striping and a simple white v-neck collar, it was classic Man Utd. The reintroduction of Adidas brought an old-school feel, and fans loved it for its simplicity.

5. 2007-08 away kit

Man Utd won the Premier League and Champions League double in this kit, and the memories alone are enough to earn it a place here.

The all-black design with red piping and a gold-trimmed crest was elegant. Think Cristiano Ronaldo standing over a free-kick in his iconic stance, wearing this beauty. Glorious.

4. 2020-21 third kit

This one really shouldn’t have worked as well as it did. A zebra-print, black-and-white chaos of a design that somehow became iconic.

Critics mocked it at first, but over time, it’s become something of a cult classic. For the Man Utd fans that look fondly on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s managerial tenure, this one’s for you.

3. 2006-07 home kit

An absolutely timeless kit. The all-red Nike design, trimmed with white and gold, celebrated Man Utd’s 50th anniversary of playing in Europe.

It had an elegant look to it, worn by a young Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney as Man Utd started their journey back to dominance.

2. 1998-99 home kit

The Treble kit. Need we say more?

But look, it’s not just the success that makes this shirt iconic, it’s the design. The collar, the bold black outlines, the white trim, and of course, Sharp across the front.

This is the kit every Man Utd fan associates with glory.

1. 1994-95 third kit

The blue-and-white ‘snowflake’ kit remains one of the most daring Man Utd designs of all time. We just don’t see kits like this anymore.

The shirt’s icy pattern was unlike anything else on the pitch and is perhaps one of Man Utd’s less-known retro kits. Umbro took a risk and it paid off.
