Finland Women and Switzerland Women meet in the Women’s Euro 2025 group stage at Stade de Geneve on Thursday 10th July at 8pm (UK time). The red card to Iceland’s Hildur Antonsdottir helped matters, but Finland also played well in a 2-1 defeat to table-toppers Norway.
The Finns won the shot count 15-9 and the expected goals numbers finished 1.11 to 0.84 in Finland’s favour and that effort suggests Saloranta’s women may be a little overpriced in Geneva.

Katariina Kosola found the net against Iceland, but the 24-year-old was moved into a full-back position against Norway and that allowed Oona Sevenius to play a more forward role against Gemma Grainger’s women.
Sevenius should be able to force her way into the starting line-up against Switzerland and the 21-year-old looks a good first goalscorer option.

The final round of fixtures in Group A of Euro 2025 sets up a straight qualification battle between Finland and Switzerland.
With Norway qualified at the top of the section, and Iceland eliminated, it’s a winner-takes-all tie in Geneva. The Swiss do have a superior goal difference, meaning a draw would be enough for the hosts to progress, but defeat would see Finland through to the knockout rounds of the competition.
Finland have bowed out of the group stage in their past two Women’s European Championship appearances. They’ll be hoping to end that run with another quarter-final appearance — their first since 2009. Finland haven’t won a game at the Women’s Euros since that run to the quarter-final, drawing two and losing four of their six past six matches.
Switzerland don’t have a good record at the Women’s European Championship, with group stage exits in each of their two appearances. But with the support of the home crowd, Switzerland will dream.
