Juventus to end trophy drought?
No cup final is meaningless, but with Atalanta preparing to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final later this month, this might mean a little more to Juventus. That’s especially the case when you consider the Old Lady has now been without a trophy for three years, having at least returned one piece of silverware in each of their ten previous seasons before this barren spell.
Juve have struggled greatly in Serie A over the past couple of years, with Massimiliano Allegri coming under great scrutiny, but there’s no better way to keep the wolves from the door than winning silverware.
The last time Juventus reached the Coppa Italia final, it ended in heartbreak, losing 4-2 to fierce rivals Inter two years ago. However, the Old Lady lifted the trophy the year prior by beating this Wednesday’s opponents.
Gian Piero Gasparini will, of course, want revenge and to give his side the chance of a memorable cup double. But we may find that Juventus have a little more fire in the belly.
Atalanta vs Juventus odds
There isn’t too much to separate these two teams, although Juventus are the favourites heading into the match. Atalanta may find fatigue a factor following their recent European exertions.
