Next Man Utd manager odds have Eddie Howe as the 9/4 favourite with Sky Bet, after a 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como piled more pressure on Michael Carrick.
Manchester United were 1-0 down inside two minutes in Italy on Wednesday night and conceded three more before Joshua Zirkzee’s stoppage-time consolation. You can read our full Como vs Man Utd stats and analysis here.
It extended a run of four games without a win in all competitions: a 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham, defeat at Atletico Madrid, a 1-1 draw at Leeds and now the heavy loss at Como.
Carrick was already joint-favourite in the Premier League Sack Race odds earlier this month, and the bookmakers are now pricing up who would replace him.

Eddie Howe
Howe heads the betting at 9/4 with Sky Bet, while bet365 are the standout price at 5/1.
He has the Premier League experience United’s hierarchy are likely to want. At Newcastle, Howe took charge in November 2021, led the club into the Champions League twice and won the Carabao Cup, their first major trophy in 70 years.
Fabian Hurzeler
Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler is the joint second-favourite at 5/1. He would be the bold, long-term choice, a young head coach with an attacking, possession-based style who already knows the Premier League.
Prising him away from the Amex mid-season would not be straightforward, which is worth bearing in mind at the price.
Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte is also 5/1 with Sky Bet. He has won the Premier League with Chelsea and Serie A titles in Italy, and that record of winning titles is why his name comes up whenever a big job opens.
Julian Nagelsmann
Julian Nagelsmann is 13/2. The Germany head coach has club experience at Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, but his contract with the national team runs until after Euro 2028, so it would take some convincing to get him to Manchester.
Kieran McKenna
Kieran McKenna, a former United coach under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is 17/2. His work at Ipswich Town has kept him on the shortlist for most big Premier League vacancies.
Michael Carrick
Carrick took over on an interim basis after Ruben Amorim’s departure in January 2026 and was handed the job on a permanent basis in the summer.
He made over 450 appearances for the club as a player and knows the size of the task better than most, but results this autumn have put his position in real doubt. The next few games are likely to decide whether this market is needed at all.
