There is a place in the US Open semi-final at stake when Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz square off against each other in New York.
Sinner has laboured to this point, failing to win a game in straight sets and needing a fifth set decider against Altmaier and Ivashka. He’s shown plenty of fortitude to come through those battles, though things won’t get any easier against world number four, Alcaraz.
The young Spaniard has yet to win a Grand Slam but, with Nadal out and Djokovic unable to take part, this represents his best chance of winning his maiden title. The first three rounds were fairly academic for Alcaraz and, although he had to find a little harder against Marin Cilic in the last round, he is the favourite to win this match and the tournament overall.
