After nine months and 46 testing gameweeks, the 2021/22 Championship regular season is finally over.
Fulham and Bournemouth secured their promotion to the Premier League before the final day, while Barnsley, Peterborough United and Derby County are all down, with the play-offs now also confirmed. And the fight to be crowned the Championship’s best goalkeeper was also a frantic spectacle.
Judging goalkeepers can be hard as there are so many variables relying on other players. Clean sheets are often attributed to whole defences while a high number of saves could come due to the lack of quality in a back four – and vice versa.
Nevertheless, Bournemouth shot-stopper Mark Travers finished the Championship season with the Golden Glove trophy. Travers kept 20 clean sheets this season, two more than Huddersfield Town’s Lee Nicholls and Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham.
Travers also ranks quite highly for saves, one of nine goalkeepers to make 100+ in the Championship this season. But it is Nicholls who finished with the most as Huddersfield confirmed third in the Championship on the final day.
