The top goalscorer in a La Liga season is duly presented with the Pichichi Trophy – and the race for the 2019/20 accolade has been settled.
Named after Athletic Bilbao marksman Rafael “Pichichi” Moreno, the prize has been annually given by Marca since the 1952/53 season.
However, given the newspaper’s subjective criteria, the league’s governing body – Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) – has not recognised the accolade.
This aside, there’s no time like the present and Lionel Messi finished top of the pile for the 2019/20 season to extend his ‘GOAT’ reputation courtesy of a seventh Pichichi Trophy.
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema was not far behind while Gerard Moreno secured third place.
