Tottenham Squawka Score Ratings 2026/27
The international break could not come at a better time. Tottenham are bottom of the Premier League with two points, beaten 3-0 at Brentford and 2-0 at home by Newcastle, then held to goalless draws by Nottingham Forest and Everton before losing 3-2 to Aston Villa. Two goals in five games is the number that defines the start. Below, we take a look at Spurs’ most-used XI so far and how each player has performed, based on the Squawka Score rating system.
The Squawka Score is a metric developed to assess a player’s performance relative to other players in the same position. It is shown as a percentage, and it is worth knowing that 66% is average rather than 50% – a 70% is a good afternoon and 85% or above marks out one of the best players on the pitch. Each score is calculated from a range of per-90-minute statistics, taking in the obvious numbers such as goals and assists alongside some more obscure ones that are far more position-specific. A player’s season figure is simply the average of his match ratings.

GK: Antonín Kinský – 65% – Twelve saves, eight conceded and two clean sheets from five full games, with five completed sweeper actions off his line. Kinský has not been the problem; two of the three defeats were settled at the other end of the pitch.
RB: Archie Gray – 61% – Three starts at right-back and a mixed return: 15 duels won from 25 and four interceptions against four occasions beaten one-on-one. Gray has been tidy in possession with 44 passes into the final third, but a big chance missed sums up a side that has not taken what it has created.
RCB: Jan Paul van Hecke – 71% – Every minute played and Spurs’ most productive defender by some distance. Twenty-four clearances, 26 duels won, 12 aerials and six blocked shots, plus 54 progressive passes and one of their two league goals. A genuinely strong start in a struggling team.
LCB: Micky van de Ven – 72% – The captain has been the pick of the back line, with 19 clearances, 21 duels won from 31 and 10 aerials, and no error charged against him. Two clean sheets in his four starts, and the defensive record would look healthier still without the collapse against Villa.
LB: Andy Robertson – 72% – Comfortably Spurs’ most creative player. Eight chances created, three of them clear-cut, 0.87 xA and 28 passes into the penalty area, all club-leading figures, plus an assist. The one blemish is an error leading to a goal. He has been supplying a forward line that has not finished.
RCM: Rodrigo Bentancur – 64% – Eight tackles won is the most in the squad and he has regained possession 19 times in the middle third, so the graft is there. The rest is harder going: 34 duels lost, nine fouls and nine occasions dribbled past, the worst figure at the club.
LCM: Sandro Tonali – 67% – Five starts, 78 passes into the final third and 20 duels won to 11 lost, which is the best ratio of any Spurs midfielder. Eight shots without a goal tells its own story about where this team’s problems lie.
AM: Mateus Fernandes – 66% – Three starts and five chances created, two of them clear-cut, from the No.10 role. Nine fouls in 250 minutes is careless, and an error leading to a shot does not help, but he has at least been trying to play forward.
RW: Sávio – 74% – Spurs’ highest-rated player, and on this evidence their most dangerous. Nine chances created, two clear-cut, 25 touches in the opposition box and a remarkable 13 completed take-ons in only three starts. If anyone is going to unlock this attack, the evidence says it is him.
LW: Mathys Tel – 64% – Ten completed take-ons and 24 touches in the opposition box from three starts, so he is getting into the right areas. Six shots have brought nothing, and 27 duels lost points to a winger being crowded out more often than not.
ST: Omar Marmoush – 58% – The lowest rating in the side and the sharpest illustration of Spurs’ problem. Seven shots and 0.51 xG without a goal, 30 duels lost and eight fouls conceded in four starts. The 12 take-ons show a forward dropping deep to get involved rather than occupying a penalty area.
Tottenham set-piece specialists:
- Penalties: Mathys Tel
- Free-kicks: Mathys Tel, James Maddison
- Corners: Sávio, Mathys Tel, Mateus Fernandes
Sávio has taken 11 of Tottenham’s corners, with Tel on seven and Mateus Fernandes five, and Andy Robertson, James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Mohammed Kudus have all had a turn. The direct free-kicks have gone to Tel, Maddison and Marmoush. Spurs are yet to win a penalty, so the taker is unproven.
