Coventry Squawka Score ratings 2026/27
Coventry have scored one goal in five Premier League games, and it won them a match. Frank Lampard’s side lost 3-0 at Arsenal, 1-0 at home to Hull City, 1-0 at Manchester City and 5-0 to Brighton, then went to Nottingham Forest and won 1-0 through Jay Dasilva. Three points and 18th is a hard first month, though the fixture list has been about as unkind as it gets. Below, we take a look at Coventry’s most-used XI so far and how each player has performed, based on the Squawka Score rating system.
The Squawka Score is a metric developed to assess a player’s performance relative to other players in the same position. It is shown as a percentage, and it is worth knowing that 66% is average rather than 50% – a 70% is a good afternoon and 85% or above marks out one of the best players on the pitch. Each score is calculated from a range of per-90-minute statistics, taking in the obvious numbers such as goals and assists alongside some more obscure ones that are far more position-specific. A player’s season figure is simply the average of his match ratings.

GK: Carl Rushworth – 63% – Nine saves, 10 goals conceded and a clean sheet at Forest from five full games. The eye-catching number is 47 progressive passes, the most of any goalkeeper in the division, and he even has an assist to his name. One error leading to a shot.
RCB: Aurèle Amenda – 63% – Four starts, 16 clearances, 14 aerial duels won and 25 progressive passes. A steady enough introduction to English football from the Swiss defender, with six fouls the only real blemish.
CB: Bobby Thomas – 68% – Coventry’s best performer. Thirty-six clearances, 27 duels won, 15 aerials and six blocked shots from every available minute, and he has had 10 shots of his own from set pieces. In a side beaten heavily three times, that is a considerable return.
LCB: Ethan Pinnock – 60% – Thirty clearances and seven blocked shots in only three starts is defending in volume, and 10 aerial duels won underlines the physical side. There is almost nothing on the ball – six passes into the final third in three games – which is what keeps the rating low.
RWB: Milan van Ewijk – 57% – A difficult start. Thirteen duels won to 18 lost, three occasions beaten one-on-one and an error leading to a goal in four starts. He has been diligent enough with 13 clearances and five interceptions, but the attacking output is close to nil.
RCM: Frank Onyeka – 50% – The lowest rating of any regular starter in the Premier League. Onyeka has two passes into the penalty area and 11 into the final third in four starts, alongside seven fouls. Six interceptions is the one positive in a return that offers Coventry nothing going forward.
LCM: Matt Grimes – 62% – The captain has played almost every minute and leads the club for passes into the penalty area with 18 and into the final third with 48, and he takes the corners. Twenty duels won to 13 lost is a decent ratio. There is just no end product around him.
LWB: Jay Dasilva – 65% – The man who scored Coventry’s only goal of the season, and their most complete wing-back. Four chances created, seven completed take-ons, 16 passes into the box and five blocked shots. Two errors leading to shots are the one caveat.
RAM: Jack Rudoni – 65% – Coventry’s creative hub, with nine chances created, 0.57 xA and 19 passes into the penalty area from four starts. He has also had six shots for 0.91 xG. Three big chances missed in a side this short of goals is costly.
LAM: Ephron Mason-Clark – 53% – Four chances created is a fair return, but 24 duels lost to 11 won and seven fouls in 234 minutes make for hard reading. He has not yet found a way to influence games at this level.
ST: Taiwo Awoniyi – 53% – Six shots and 0.99 xG without a goal, two big chances missed and a red card in three starts. Coventry need their centre-forward to start converting, and the sending-off has not helped a side already short of options.
Coventry’s set-piece specialists:
- Penalties: Haji Wright
- Free-kicks: Matt Grimes, Victor Torp
- Corners: Matt Grimes, Jack Rudoni
Grimes has taken eight of Coventry’s corners to Rudoni’s six, with Loum Tchaouna on three and Victor Torp, Gustavo Hamer and Ephron Mason-Clark taking one apiece. Coventry have not been awarded a penalty, and Haji Wright, last season’s taker, is yet to feature in the Premier League this term.
