After three months without live action La Liga returns on Thursday with a riveting title-race, a top-four tussle and a tense relegation scrap.
Indeed it’s all to play for in the Spanish top flight, with Real Madrid and Barcelona habitually fighting tooth and nail for domestic supremacy, while a whole host of clubs lock horns to secure those final two Champions League places.
Despite spending handsomely in the summer, Atletico Madrid have failed to hit the right notes under animated conductor Diego Simeone, and they currently find themselves languishingly in sixth, though just a point outside the top four.
So, it would seem the usual suspects are just about where they should be. But, what of those looking to unsettle the established order?
Lesser known Madrid-based club Getafe have turned heads under Jose Bordalas this season and sit in fifth; former Real manager Julen Lopetegui has galvanised Sevilla to third; Real Sociedad have mixed youth with experience to gatecrash the top four; while Valencia and Villarreal have just about kept themselves in the conversation but will be looking to hit the ground running when they return to action.
So, who will you be rooting for? Well, if you’re not accustomed to success on these shores, or have a soft spot for the dark horse, then we’ll find you your most compatible club, away from all that title-challenging malarkey.
