During his playing career Mikel Arteta took part in nine North London derbies. Thus, as manager of Arsenal, he certainly appreciates the magnitude of the occasion.

There are few rivalries in football as emotionally-charged and frantically-paced as that between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. The fixture is always a must-watch for any fan of the sport, and this showdown is arguably the most important for Arteta and Arsenal in the 2021/22 season.

The Spaniard’s was there, under Arsene Wenger, when the Gunners beat Spurs 5-2 in consecutive seasons at the Emirates. The first of these triumphs came against Harry Redknapp, the second against Andre Villas-Boas. It must be said that Arteta has also endured his fair share of losses in the derby, including his first, a 2-1 reversal at White Hart Lane in 2011.
