Possible trips to Russia and Ukraine will give Arsenal bad memories of last season’s long and ultimately fruitless journey to Azerbaijan, where they lost in the final to Chelsea.
And if Manchester United are to mount a genuine challenge to finish in the top four this term, they will require their European travels to be as short as possible.
