Would Chelsea fans rather Spurs win the Champions League or give up their own spot?
Chelsea have booked their place in next season’s Champions League, despite a somewhat indifferent season under Maurizio Sarri.
The Blues can also deny London rivals Arsenal an opportunity to play in Europe’s elite competition by beating Unai Emery’s side in the Europa League final. And that would mean a welcome boost of bragging rights over the Gunners.
However, Spurs are set to dine at Europe’s top table next term too, having finished fourth in England’s top tier. Mauricio Pochettino’s men also have the small matter of a Champions League final versus Liverpool to take part in.
The Lilywhites may well end up lifting ‘the big one’ to become the second side from the capital – after Chelsea – to etch their name on the Champions League trophy.
Such a scenario would represent a nightmare for many Chelsea fans, who famously do not get on particularly well with their capital neighbours.
So, if Chelsea fans had to choose between Spurs doing the business in Madrid and giving up their own place in the Champions League – what would they go for?
The phrase cutting off your nose to spite your own face springs to mind, but it seems some Chelsea fans would do anything to stop Spurs securing a piece of history – even if it means having to face up to playing against teams they’ve never heard of on Thursday nights.
