The 2022 World Cup is over, with Argentina beating France on penalties in Sunday’s final.

While a lot of focus was on the strikers, let’s not forget about those protecting the goal. Some of the world’s best goalkeepers have been on display in Qatar.

At the end of the tournament, there is a Golden Glove award for the best goalkeeper in the tournament but, unlike in the Premier League, it isn’t handed out for clean sheets alone. In 2018 Thibaut Courtois won the Golden Glove and did keep a joint-tournament-high three clean sheets, but minutes played would have seen him miss out. However, the fact that he also made 27 saves as Belgium went to the semi-finals and eventually finished third, saw Courtois come out on top.

Argetina goalkeeper Emi Martinez took home the award after today’s final, but here is the purely number’s-based top-10 list for clean sheets and saves from the 2022 World Cup.
