Women’s World Cup 2023 top scorers: Golden Boot standings in Australia/New Zealand
The 2023 Women’s World Cup is underway and some of the best goalscorers from across the globe are hoping to fire their nations to glory in Australia and New Zealand,
In the previous edition in 2019, three players finished tied on six goals with Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Ellen White all fighting for the Golden Boot. While White did not add any assists to her six goals, settling for the Bronze Boot as a result, both Rapinoe and Morgan had recorded three, meaning they couldn’t be split on that tiebreaker either.
In the end, the Golden Boot was awarded on fewest minutes played and Rapinoe just got the better of her teammate to become just the second American to win the Golden Boot after Michelle Akers in 10. Of course, the Golden Boot was only the cherry on top of the cake that was United States’ fourth World Cup triumph and Rapinoe would go on to win the Ballon d’Or Feminin and The Best FIFA Women’s Player awards for 2019.
