Tottenham’s predicted Premier League finish, trophy probability ratings, odds, best players & stats
Tottenham Hotspur would have been hopeful of securing a top four finish this season after coming fifth in their first campaign under Ange Postecoglou, but things haven’t quite gone to plan.
After missing out on Champions League football by just two points last season, Tottenham look way off the pace for the top four in this campaign, with the north London outfit suffering from even more inconsistency and injury issues that have left them in 12th place in the Premier League – 12 points off fourth-placed Chelsea.
Postecoglou has now found himself under increasing pressure this season after seeing his slip down further down the Premier League table, though having nine injured first team stars unavailable might be a source of mitigation for the Australian. Tottenham are currently priced at 33/1 by BetMGM to finish in the top four this season, with Opta giving Spurs less than a 1 per cent chance of doing so (0.2). Even repeating last season’s fifth-placed finish seems unfancied, with Opta only giving them a probability of 0.5. Winning the Premier League has been deemed as an impossible task at almost zero.
Lifting a cup might be the club’s best chance of a successful season – given they are still in three cup competitions. They are rated at 6/1 to win the Carabao Cup, 9/1 to win the FA Cup and 9/2 to win the Europa League. They have odds of 50/1 to lift both the Carabao Cup and League Cup.
So, can Tottenham defy the odds and qualify for European football, or win silverware in Postecoglou’s second season?

Tottenham’s summer transfer window business
Tottenham transfers in
There were five arrivals at Tottenham in the summer, including Timo Werner whose loan move from RB Leipzig was extended. There is a £8.5m option for Tottenham to buy the German next summer. Of course, the main arrival came in the form of a striker, with Dominic Solanke the new man to lead the line. Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have also added young quality to the squad, the latter initially signing in February.
Tottenham transfers out
It was also a busy summer of outgoings for Tottenham as they tidied up their squad. Oliver Skipp, Emerson Royal, Giovani Lo Celso, Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic were all allowed to leave on permanent deals, among others.
Tottenham winter transfers in
Spurs have made one addition in the January transfer window so far and it was a vital one for the depth in their squad. Young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky has arrived for around £12.5m to provide cover for the injured Guglielmo Vicario.
Who are Tottenham’s most important players?
Tottenham’s top Premier League Golden Boot contender: Dominic Solanke
Son Heung-min was Tottenham’s top scorer in the Premier League last season, scoring 17 goals in 35 games. The South Korean has scored seven goals in all competitions so far this season, with James Maddison leading the scoring charts with eight in front of Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson (7).
Last season, Solanke finally started firing in the Premier League. Before the 2023-24 campaign, Solanke hadn’t scored more than six goals in a single Premier League season. But last season, he scored 19, with only three players netting more. Solanke had 109 shots in total, the third-most and scored half of his 28 big chances.
The 27-year-old had a slow start to life as a Tottenham player due to injury, but he’s starting to find his feet. In 17 league matches so far, Solanke has seven goals and three assists. He also leads Tottenham for shots on target with 20, and has a shooting accuracy of 46.51%.
Tottenham’s primary playmaker: Dejan Kulusevski
Brennan Johnson and Son Heung-min were actually Tottenham’s top assist providers last season with 10 each, but Dejan Kulusevski has emerged as Tottenham’s primary creative force in this campaign. But you have to think that James Maddison would have topped that list had he not missed a couple of months with an ankle injury.
It looked like James Maddison would be the man Tottenham would look to this season after he appeared to be flying at the start of the current campaign with five chances created and two assists in his first two matches. That included an assist against his former club Leicester City at the King Power. He created at least two chances in each of his first five games this season, with an Expected Assists total of 2.94. Per 90 minutes, Maddison was averaging 2.65 chances created of which 0.66 were big chances.
But on the whole, Kulusevski has become Tottenham’s shining light after creating a total of 47 chances – a much higher total than Maddison’s 26 chances and the second highest in the league behind Cole Palmer (57). It was only inevitable that Kulusevski would usurp Maddison in this area after keeping him on the bench for large parts of the season.
Kulusevski has created a total of eight ‘big chances’, while also registering four assists – the second highest behind Son. The South Korean has six assists and 33 chances created.
Swedish star Kulusevski has been by far Spurs’ best player this season and his team-mates have benefited from his bright creative displays in midfield. He has a passing accuracy of 79.85 per cent and has completed 428 of his 536 attempted passes.
Included in that total are 268 completed passes in the final third from 353 attempted passes. He’s had 979 touches and has an expected assists of 3.25.
Tottenham’s card magnet & top tackler: Destiny Udogie
The life of a full-back is a busy one both defensively and in attack. And Destiny Udogie has been getting himself stuck in this season.
The Italian full-back has made more tackles than any other Tottenham player in the Premier League this season (50). He also ranks third for fouls, with only Dejan Kulusevski (30) and Dominic Solanke (27) making more than Udogie’s 22 so far.
He’s made 17 interceptions, the joint-second highest of any Tottenham star, and 60 possessions won in the defensive third – the highest of any of his team-mates.
Tottenham’s rising star: Mikey Moore
Mikey Moore made his Tottenham debut last season, coming off the bench in a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in May. This season, Moore has made 11 appearances across all competitions, with a long period of illness preventing him from making more outings under Postecoglou this season.
Moore has got the majority of his gametime in the Europa League, playing 183 minutes across three matches. His four games in the Premier League have brought 83 minutes, while he has 22 minutes in the League Cup and had 68 minutes in the 3-0 win over Tamworth in the FA Cup. But Moore doesn’t need long on the pitch for his class to show. Tottenham fans will be hoping to see more of him this season.

Tottenham tactical analysis & formation
Tottenham team stats from the 2023-24 Premier League season (avg per game):
- Corners: 6.2
- Shots on target: 5.7
- Shots conceded: 12.8
- Offsides: 2.18
At the start of the season, Yves Bissouma was presumed to be the favourite to start in Tottenham’s holding role. He missed the opening game through suspension, but was expected to be a regular. That hasn’t been the case.
Rodrigo Bentancur has made the role his own, sitting at the base of a midfield flanked by Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison. But Bentancur is now suspended and Maddison has recently lost his place in midfield to Pape Matar Sarr. It’s still a very attack-minded midfield though, with Kulusevski as the main pressing man. In attack, Son Heung-min has pushed back out to the left wing with Dominic Solanke through the middle. Brennan Johnson completes the front three.
And the back five is as expected, with Micky van de Ven one of the best young centre-backs around.
Tottenham’s best players so far
- GK: Guglielmo Vicario (60%)
The Italian has been a quality shot-stopper since joining Spurs from Empoli in 2023 and he’s particularly impressed this season – before his long-term injury. His ‘goals prevented’ stat, produced by actual goals conceded from post shot xG – stands at 0.24 per 90 minutes, the third best average in the Premier League.
- RB: Pedro Porro (70%)
The Spaniard might be lacking in defence but going forward is where he excels. He’s made four assists so far this season. Across the Premier League, only Antonee Robinson (7) and Rayan Ait-Nouri have more.
- CB: Cristian Romero (70%)
A player Spurs are hugely missing amid his injury lay-off. He’s averaged eight passes into the final third completed per 90 minutes the second-best record of any Premier League centre-back this season. He also has the second-best record when it comes to tackles per 90 minutes for a centre-back, with 2.12.
- CB: Mickey van de Ven (55%)
Van de Ven is rated highly by Spurs fans but his 50% aerial duel success puts him in the bottom-twenty per cent for Premier League centre-backs, while the same can be said for ground duels (48.7%). He’s won possession through only five tackles in the Premier League this season and has been a part of just one clean sheet. However, going forward he’s been an important part of building Tottenham’s attacks with 4.7 passes into the final third completed every 90 minutes, with two assists in 2024/25, the most of any Premier League centre-back.
- LB: Destiny Udogie (53%)
Udogie has been Tottenham’s top tacklers with an average of 1.94 tackles won per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. That total is only bettered by Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori (2.16) and Alex Moreno (2.04). His stats going forward have been less impressive. He’s created just two ‘big chances’ created, while he has had just one shot on target and three open-play crosses completed for the season. Also counting against his score is one error leading to a goal.
- CM: Yves Bissouma (56%)
The Mali international has an average of 12.47 accurate forward passes and 2.05 tackles won per 90, putting him in the top 20 Premier League midfielders.
However, it’s his mobility in midfield and ability to go past his man that has caused him to struggle. He’s only completed six take-ons out of 16 attempted.
- CM: James Maddison (75%)
Playing slightly deeper is working for James Maddison. The Englishman has been in and out of the team this season after making 14 starts in the Premier League and coming off the bench six times. He’s having more of an influence on the game despite being further away from the goal. He’s averaging 0.54 goals from open play – the most per 90 minutes across all Premier League midfielders. Creatively, he’s completed 642 of his 740 attempted passes, giving him an accuracy rate of 86.76.
- CM: Dejan Kulusevski (68%)
The Swedish international is Tottenham’s biggest creator this season with 47 chances created in total, including eight categorised as ‘big chances’. However, he’s let down by his 29 completed take-ons out of 75 attempted.
Kulusevski is also lacking when it comes to shots – taking 31, the fifth highest out of all his Spurs team-mates – and only 11 on target, which also the fifth-highest.
- RM: Brennan Johnson (65%)
There’s no doubt that Brennan Johnson has been an important part of Tottenham’s squad after scoring 12 goals in all competitions under Postecoglou, though fans have been frustrated with his end product.
After 16 Premier League starts and 1452 minutes played, Johnson has only created a total of 14 chances, and only three ‘big chances’, while he ranks fourth for take-ons, completing just 14 out of 25 attempted, showing his preference to play the easy pass instead.
- Son Heung-min (77%)
The South Korean and Spurs club captain looks more leggy this season than most seasons, but despite his under-par displays on the whole, he’s still managed five goals and six assists in the Premier League – the fourth highest.
He’s created 33 chances and 12 considered ‘big chances’, the highest of any Spurs player. Going forward, he has the highest shooting accuracy of any forward at the club (51.43), scoring four of his big chances.
- Dominic Solanke (71%)
Dominic Solanke is finding his feet at Tottenham. The Englishman has scored seven goals in the Premier League, with an expected goals of 8.27. His shooting accuracy of 46.51 % is the third-highest at Tottenham behind Son and Maddison.
His creative efforts are reflected in completing 82 of his 125 attempted passes in the final third, though he has a passing accuracy of 71.85 with three assists in total this season.
