Next Leeds manager odds: Four contenders to replace under-fire Daniel Farke

Daniel Farke remains under immense pressure at struggling Leeds United following a run of four straight defeats, which leaves the club stuck in the Premier League‘s relegation zone.

Despite pushing Manchester City all the way at the Etihad over the weekend, Leeds ultimately sank to an agonising 3-2 injury-time defeat, meaning Farke remains odds-on for the sack.

Farke led Leeds to the Championship title last season, but has previously struggled in the Premier League with Norwich City. Across two spells in charge of the Canaries and his current job at Leeds, Farke has recorded just nine wins and lost a whopping 43 of his 62 matches as a Premier League manager – a win rate of just 14.52%.

Below, we have taken a closer look at the four leading contenders to replace the under-fire German should he be shown the door.

Gary O’Neil: 7/4

Gary O’Neil has emerged as the new 7/4 favourite to take over at Leeds should Farke be fired.

O’Neil has already been linked with multiple clubs in recent weeks, from a return to Wolves to the Championship duo of Southampton and Middlesbrough. Wolves and Boro have since made appointments, while Saints fans made their thoughts clear on a potential move due to O’Neil previously playing for their rivals Portsmouth.

As such, O’Neil remains available for hire and eager to return to the dugout.

Carlos Corberan: 3/1

Carlos Corberan is second in the running alongside Bo Svensson at 3/1.

Corberan is currently in charge of hometown side Valencia, who paid up to £4m to release him from his contract at West Brom. The Spaniard led the Baggies to the Championship play-offs in his only full-season in charge, and previously came agonisingly close to leading Huddersfield to the Premier League, losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in the play-off final.

Corberan, who spent just 49 days in charge of Olympiacos after leaving the Terriers, has ties to Leeds where he was part of Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching staff.

Bo Svensson: 3/1

Bo Svensson, currently out of work, has experience at German clubs Union Berlin and Mainz, as well as Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg feeder club, FC Liefering.

Svensson is best known for masterminding Mainz’s great escape during the 2020-21 season. He took over midway through the campaign when the team had only six points from 14 games, then under his guidance Mainz achieved a stunning turnaround with nine wins and six draws from the remaining 21 matches, before going on to finish in the top-half of the Bundesliga in consecutive seasons.

However, his subsequent stint at Union Berlin ended after just 17 games. Despite being linked with multiple clubs, including Rangers, Svensson has now been out of work for 11 months.

Brendan Rodgers: 4/1

Could Brendan Rodgers be preparing for a swift return to management?

The Northern Irish tactician resigned from Celtic a month ago and was swiftly savaged by the club’s major shareholder Dermot Desmond, who publicly criticised him for fostering a “toxic atmosphere”. Despite the acrimony, Rodgers’ two spells at Celtic were highly successful, delivering two domestic trebles first time around, then back-to-back league titles in his second stint.

Rodgers brings extensive Premier League experience, having managed Liverpool, Swansea City, and Leicester City; he led the latter to a historic FA Cup triumph and Community Shield.

Rodgers’ experience and availability could make him a tempting prospect for a club that needs an injection of impetus quickly.
