Ghana vs Panama Predictions & Betting Tips

Our PredictionOdds & BookmakerConfidenceWhy We’re Backing It
Antoine Semenyo anytime goalscorer3/1 @ Sky Bet
(25%)
⭐⭐⭐⭐Semenyo has been in devastating form this season, netting 17 Premier League goals for Bournemouth and then Manchester City. That form makes him Ghana’s most dangerous weapon on Tuesday. Panama’s most important defensive task is keeping Semenyo quiet – and that tells you everything about the threat he poses. His pace, directness and clinical finishing give him the tools to exploit any space Panama leave in behind their back three. Ghana desperately need to win this opener. That urgency means Semenyo will get licence to attack. At 3/1, this boost is great value.
Correct Score – Ghana 2-0 Panama10/1 @ AK Bets
(9.1%)
⭐⭐Ghana enter this fixture as clear favourites and desperately need maximum points. Panama avoided defeat through CONCACAF qualifying, but that resilience came against far weaker opposition than Ghana’s attacking unit. Semenyo and Williams give Ghana firepower Panama simply cannot handle. Panama’s back three will find Semenyo’s pace and directness nearly impossible to contain. Ghana will push hard for goals but won’t overextend. A controlled, professional 2-0 victory looks the most natural outcome. The odds reflect uncertainty – the underlying logic says otherwise.

How both teams go into Ghana vs Panama

Ghana make their fifth World Cup appearance and arrive carrying genuine momentum from one of Africa’s strongest qualifying campaigns. The Black Stars topped CAF Group I with 25 points from ten matches – eight wins, one draw and just one defeat – averaging more than two goals per game and conceding only six throughout.

However, their pre-tournament friendly form raises significant questions. Ghana suffered a 5-1 hammering by Austria and a 2-0 defeat to Mexico, losing four of their last five warm-up fixtures and conceding freely against quality opposition. New coach Carlos Queiroz, appointed late on a short-term deal, has had limited time to build cohesion.

Panama make their second World Cup appearance and arrive as one of CONCACAF’s most improved nations. Christiansen’s side went unbeaten throughout qualifying – topping their second-round group with a perfect four-from-four record before finishing first in Final Round Group A. That makes Panama the strongest CONCACAF qualifier outside the three host nations – a remarkable achievement for a country of just four million people.

Their pre-tournament form tells a more complicated story. Panama lost to both South Africa and Brazil in warm-up fixtures, conceding six goals in those two defeats, raising legitimate defensive concerns. However, their qualifying record shows a side that saves their best performances for competitive football. Panama also reached the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup final, the 2024 Copa America quarter-finals and the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League final under Christiansen – a consistency across competitions that underlines genuine tournament pedigree.

Ghana team news

Ghana carry three significant absentees into Thursday’s opener. Vice-captain Thomas Partey misses out after Canadian authorities denied him entry into the country. Mohammed Kudus and Mohammed Salisu both failed to recover from injuries in time, depriving Queiroz of two key starters. Those are significant losses – Kudus in particular was Ghana’s most dangerous creative outlet throughout qualifying.

Elisha Owusu looks set to fill the midfield void alongside youngster Caleb Yirenki, with Kwasi Sibo and Augustine Boakye also competing for a starting berth. Jordan Ayew leads the attack after netting seven qualifying goals. Antoine Semenyo and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku should start wide, with Ernest Nuamah and Kamaldeen Sulemana pushing for places. Lawrence Ati-Zigi starts in goal.

Panama team news

Panama carry one key fitness concern into Thursday’s opener. Adalberto Carrasquilla – the 2024 CONCACAF Player of the Year and Panama’s creative engine – missed all pre-tournament warm-up matches with a muscle injury. He returned to training on Sunday, but Christiansen looks unlikely to rush him into the starting XI. Carlos Harvey should fill that midfield role alongside captain Aníbal Godoy, who brings 159 international caps and a commanding presence at the base of midfield.

Goalkeeper Luis Mejia also carries a minor doubt, handing Orlando Mosquera a likely start between the sticks. Amir Murillo should operate at right wing-back, with José Fajardo and Ismael Díaz leading the attacking line. Panama carry no suspension concerns. Their 16 players with 50+ international caps give this squad genuine experience for the biggest stage.

Head-to-Head

This will be the first ever meeting between these two nations. As a result, we don’t have any historical data to go on to try and determine the winner of this contest.

Which side will grab the advantage in Group L?

Ghana come into this game as favourites but the gap between the two looks closer than many people might think at first glance.

Having said that, we think Ghana will have enough to pick up a win. It might not be comprehensive victory but a correct score of Ghana 2-0 Panama looks good value at 10/1 with AK Bets.

The quality of Antoine Semenyo could well be a decisive factor and we’re backing the Man City forward to score anytime at 3/1 at a boosted price with Sky Bet.
