MetLife Stadium: History
Despite its location — and World Cup name — ordering it as New York/New Jersey, MetLife Stadium is in the latter state. It’s known as such because it is in the New York metropolitan area, which covers areas in the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The stadium is the home of New York’s two NFL teams in the Giants and the Jets, and has hosted the Super Bowl in 2014.
As a football venue, MetLife Stadium has hosted a number of tournament matches, including the Concacaf Gold Cup and Copa America. It has also been known to host friendlies. But arguably the biggest tournament so far was the 2025 Club World Cup, with MetLife Stadium hosting nine games to prepare for the World Cup. This includes the Club World Cup final.
Other events at MetLife Stadium include two WrestleManias and a host of concerts, including Taylor Swift, Eminem, Metallica, Beyonce and Oasis.
