RB Leipzig star Timo Werner has suggested Manchester United might be a more attractive prospect than Liverpool or Manchester City as talk of a summer transfer intensifies.
Werner has been one of the Bundesliga’s best players in recent years and has scored 21 goals in 25 league appearances so far this season.

- But he has suggested playing for Liverpool or Man City would be difficult because of their quality and the competition for places.
- Subsequently, Werner noted that Man Utd’s need for “big changes” makes them an interesting alternative.
- However, he did not give a preference in terms of joining United, City or Liverpool – or staying at Leipzig – at this stage.
- Werner has scored a total of 88 goals in 150 appearances across all competitions for Leipzig.
The German will likely be sought after this summer if his current goalscoring form continues – this term he has found the net 27 times in 36 games across all competitions.
As such, he may have a difficult decision to make in terms of whether he remains with Leipzig or joins a Premier League outfit at the end of the campaign.
What’s more, Werner may have to decide between what he sees as very different clubs in terms of recent achievements, as he explained before Leipzig’s victory over Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday.
“At this time in professional soccer, there are two different variations,” Werner told Sky Sports. “The first is to be part of a team like Liverpool or Manchester City. They have a good working team. The teams have also great coaches.
“But this is the question: do you want to go to that kind of team, because the situation is already that hard for each member and you want to be a part of it? That’s one point you have to look at.
“The other side are teams which need some big changes, because they just won a few big titles, but they are not able to compete on the highest level anymore. For me, Manchester United is one of these teams.

“So at this point of my career, I’m asking myself: do I want to be part of a new team, to build up something new, or do I want to stay at my team and make something great?”
Werner scored a penalty in the first leg of Leipzig’s Round-of-16 victory over Spurs and will now be anticipating the draw for the quarter-final.
