Aaron Wan-Bissaka forced to withdraw from England squad through injury

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has pulled out of England’s forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo through injury.

The 21-year-old right-back received a first international call-up by Gareth Southgate following an impressive start to life at Old Trafford but will have to wait for a first cap after suffering an issue with his back.

A graduate of Crystal Palace’s esteemed academy, Wan-Bissaka parted company with the south London club in the summer after Man Utd paid £50m for his signature.

Wan-Bissaka’s rapid ascent has seen him become renowned for his relentless tackling and in Man Utd’s recent outing at Southampton he registered 10 challenges in the process becoming the first player to make 10+ in a single Premier League game this season.

United would again drop points on the south coast but expect to fare better when Leicester City visit Old Trafford after the international break. Wan-Bissaka’s club boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping it’s not too serious to force him out of the clash against Brendan Rodgers’ men especially as they are already missing stand-in Diogo Dalot.

His departure means Southgate will have to choose between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier for the right-back berth as there’s no plans at the moment to call-up a replacement which most likely would be Kyle Walker who surprisingly didn’t make the latest Three Lions squad. Trippier is the more experienced of the pair having collected 16 caps to date whilst Alexander-Arnold has featured six times.

England welcome Bulgaria to Wembley on September 7 before taking on Kosovo at St Mary’s three days later.
