Newcastle, meanwhile, saw a two-match winning streak go up in smoke as they suffered a humbling 3-0 loss against Everton on the road.
Both sides were missing numerous key first-team players but Spurs were able to retain Heung-Min Son who suffered a discomfort in their loss to West Ham last time out. Son, who netted his 10th goal this season to make it 4-0, first turned provider as he created their opening two goals.
Similar in execution, the South Korean forward left Kieran Trippier in his wake before picking out Destiny Udogie and Richarlison, the former scoring his first Premier League goal while each of the latter two goals for Tottenham in England’s top division before today was as a substitute.
Stretching back into last season Tottenham have scored at least once in each of their last 28 Premier League games, with only Brighton (32) currently enjoying a longer such run in the division. Indeed, only between April-December 1949 and February-November 1962 have Spurs had a longer scoring run in their league history (both runs of 32).

Richarlison would then register his first Premier League brace since April 2022 against Burnley while Pedro Porro moved onto five assists for the campaign. The former Sporting man has now created a goal in four of his last five Premier League games (four assists), as many as in his first 25 games in the competition.
Equally impressive, since making his Spurs debut in February, the only defender with more Premier League goal involvements than him (11 – 3 goals, 8 assists) is Trent Alexander-Arnold (13).
Udogie’s opener meant Tottenham had scored the opening goal in 13 different Premier League games this season, more than any other side, however recent outings led to some apprehension. Postecoglou’s side broke the deadlock in each of their previous five games leading to just one point.
Furthermore, they’ve dropped 16 points from winning positions this season, the joint most by any Premier League side this season. Spurs’ overall record after taking the lead this season now reads seven wins, two draws and four losses. Joelinton grabbed a late consolation for Newcastle but the damage had long been done.
It’s now back-to-back Premier League defeats for the Magpies who have now lost more league matches this season (six) than they lost in the entirety of 2022/23 (five).
