Jadon Sancho scored his first goal for Manchester United as they beat Villarreal 0-2 in the Champions League.
The win sends the Red Devils through to the round of 16 with a game to spare, which is remarkable given how much they have struggled this season. But they’ve picked up results thanks largely to Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, but tonight Jadon Sancho stepped up too.
Sancho joined United in the summer for £73m after a transfer saga that lasted the better part of a year, but his start to life at Old Trafford has been less than impressive. Before tonight he had 0 goals and 0 assists in his 14 appearances, and worse, he hadn’t even played well.
That all changed in Spain.
Sancho put in an impressive display, making 4 tackles, creating 1 chance and just being a menace to the Yellow Submarine. And then when it came time to take his chance he absolutely did not hesitate, rifling the ball into the back of the net.

And then the tributes started to flow from his compatriots, celebrating his first United goal. Declan Rice, who has been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford, said he was “buzzing” for his England team-mate.

Jude Bellingham, who is not only Sancho’s team-mate with England but also played with him in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund, simply tweeted the wingers initials and a grin emoji.

It’s clear that everyone is buzzing for Jadon Sancho to have finally opened his account at Old Trafford. The question is now whether this goal and performance will spark the winger to life and allow him to begin his Manchester United career in earnest?
