Once the summer transfer window closed on August 30, it did not mean that business could not be concluded.

In what turned out to be another frenetic last few hours, several transfers were announced after the deadline day closing time.

Raheem Sterling

From: Chelsea

To: Arsenal

After being deemed surplus to requirements by new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, the 82-time capped England international Raheem Sterling had no option but to leave Stamford Bridge, with Manchester United heavily linked to securing his signature. A deadline day twist has seen the Londoner remain in Britain’s capital and become the latest to swap Blue for Red as he joins Arsenal on a season-long loan. Given his wealth of experience, could the former Manchester City winger play a pivotal role in the Gunners finally ending their 21-year Premier League title drought? Only time will tell.

Jadon Sancho

From: Manchester United

To: Chelsea

Just when it seemed like Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag had mended their relationship, he left Old Trafford to join Chelsea, despite Juventus persisting with their efforts to sign the former Borussia Dortmund winger on loan from United. Instead, he relocated to West London, where he’ll temporarily call Stamford Bridge home. It’s possible that this move could become permanent.

Ivan Toney

From: Brentford

To: Al-Ahli

Saudi Pro League confirms arrival of the England international, who leaves Brentford after four years and 72 goals. The destination may have been a surprise, but departing from the Bees wasn’t. If not for his suspension, chances are he would have already bid his farewells last summer. He was linked with several of England’s biggest clubs, but none made a move, hence the move outside Europe.

Matt Turner

From: Nottingham Forest

To: Crystal Palace

U.S. international goalkeeper has transferred to Crystal Palace, where he will serve as backup to Dean Henderson following Sam Johnstone’s move to Wolves.

Carlos Forbs

From: Ajax

To: Wolves

Left-winger impressed at the youth level with Manchester City but only managed to score three goals in his debut season at Ajax. The deal for the 20-year-old will automatically become permanent should specific clauses be triggered. “Carlos was one we wanted to do last summer, and then Ajax made a great offer for him, and he got a great move to a huge club, and now we get the opportunity to bring him in. So, maybe it’s just a year delayed,” sporting director Matt Hobbs said.

Trevoh Chalobah

From: Chelsea

To: Crystal Palace

Eagles complete a busy deadline day with a loan move for a versatile defensive player who was not part of the first-team plans at Chelsea.

“I’m delighted to join an ambitious club like Crystal Palace,” he said. “I know some of the boys in the squad well and I’m looking forward to playing alongside them in front of the amazing support at Selhurst Park.”

The defender made 17 appearances for the Blues last season under Mauricio Pochettino, having been handed his debut by Thomas Tuchel in 2021.

Chalobah could form a centre-back partnership with Marc Guehi, who remained at Selhurst Park this summer despite interest from Newcastle United.

Reiss Nelson

From: Arsenal

To: Fulham

Winger joins former Arsenal teammate Emile Smith Rowe at Craven Cottage after his move to Ipswich falls through. The 24-year-old — a former England Under-21 international — had been in talks with the Tractor Boys before the Cottagers moved on deadline day.

Having come through Arsenal’s youth system he would go on to make 90 first-team appearances. He has also had loan spells at Feyenoord and Hoffenheim.

Nelson has played two minutes of Arsenal’s Premier League season so far, having made 24 appearances during the 2022/23 season. Only two of those appearances were starts in the league or Champions League.

Armando Broja

From: Chelsea

To: Everton

Everton bolstered their attacking options by securing a last-minute deal for a centre-forward on a season-long loan, with the choice to make the transfer permanent for £30 million.
