Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Man Utd must be “patient” with transfer activity

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called for ‘patience’ after Manchester United hit a stumbling block in the club’s pursuit of their intended transfer targets.

The Red Devils have reportedly been courting the likes of Harry Maguire, Sean Longstaff and Bruno Fernandes but are yet to make a breakthrough.

Who will Man Utd sign? Five things to know…

  • So far Man Utd have signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £45m and Daniel James for £15m.
  • It is believed Man Utd have had multiple bids rejected for Leicester City defender Maguire.
  • United are also credited with an interest in Newcastle midfielder Longstaff and Sporting Lisbon playmaker Fernandes.
  • Earlier this month Solskjaer revealed Man Utd are “working on” two new transfers.
  • However, a deal for any of the aforementioned trio is yet to materialise and Solskjaer has now called for “patience”.

Having already secured the services of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace and Daniel James from Swansea City, Solskjaer appears eager to add further quality to his current playing squad.

Potential deals for Maguire, Longstaff and Fernandes are yet to transpire, but the Norwegian has intimated he is not feeling the strain of trying to get any of these transfers over the line.

“I believe in these players,” said Solskjaer. “I’m sure we could do well, but it’s both short term and long term. When we’re working on something that means we’ve identified something that could improve us.

“If it’s to be or not to be we will see. It will take time for any player to adjust to Manchester United – apart from me, it took me six minutes.

“We’ve got to be patient, it’s a long haul and it’s very important we get the right ones in.

“When you hit a hurdle you can’t just jump on a different path. I’ve not had a frustrated feeling at all.”

Solskjaer: Pogba has never been a problem

Moving on to potential departures, Paul Pogba has continuously seen his name associated with a move to either Real Madrid or Juventus this summer after his agent, Mino Raiola, suggested he was  “in the process” of organising a transfer for his client.

This has come after a season in which Pogba struggled to really stamp his authority in the heart of Man Utd’s midfield, drawing criticism from fans and pundits alike, but Solskjaer has weighed in by saying he has never encountered an issue with the Frenchman.

He said: “Our fans know what Paul has given the club and what he can give us. Obviously there’s some small minority.

“Paul has been absolutely top in the group, both me and the players will testify to that. He’s never for a second been a problem. We’re just grateful when he performs as well as he does.”
