    Sevilla 3-0 Man Utd: Full player ratings as Maguire mistake sets Red Devils on their way to Europa League exit

    Manchester United crashed out of the Europa League as they were beaten 3-0 by Sevilla on Thursday night.

    When you combine it with the fact that Man Utd were 2-0 up on aggregate at half-time in the first leg and eventually lost the tie 5-2, it’s bad viewing for Erik ten Hag’s men. It was a poor start for Man Utd in Spain as Youssef En-Nesyri capitalised on a defensive error to put Sevilla ahead inside the opening 10 minutes.

    Chasing the game, Man Utd’s night went from bad to worse as Loic Bade made it 2-0 shortly after half-time, with En-Nesyri getting his second late on to set up a semi-final with Juventus.

    Here’s how the players rated at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan:

    Sevilla

    Yassine Bounou – 6 – Had very little to do in the first half as Sevilla controlled the game and though he had to make a couple of saves after half-time, Bounou won’t have many easier nights.

    Jesus Navas – 7 – There were times when you could have forgotten Navas was on the pitch, not because he was ineffective but because he didn’t need to be. Had a cakewalk up against Sancho in the first half and managed Rashford well after the break, a real experienced performance.

    Loic Bade – 8 – Coming in for Tanguy Nianzou from the first leg, it was like night and day for the Sevilla defence. Bade was excellent, resilient at the back and helped keep the Man Utd attack so quiet. He also rose high to put Sevilla 2-0 up, even though his leap was a bit mistimed and he shouldered the ball in rather than headered.

    Marcao – 6 – Found himself a lot closer to the touchline than many would have expected, helping Acuna out with Antony and Sabitzer. Did well but had his time on the pitch cut short by a first-half injury.

    Marcos Acuna – 7 – It was another thrilling duel against Antony and Acuna looked like he was once again trying to kill the Brazilian. Thought he had an assist after intercepting Casemiro’s pass to eventually set up Ocampos, but he had just strayed offside in receiving the ball back from En-Nesyri. Kept Antony in his pocket in the second half.

    Nemanja Gudelj – 9 – Helped Sevilla control the midfield in the opening 30 minutes and pulled out an excellent rabona cross to set up a decent opportunity. Dropped to centre-back following Marcao’s injury and was even better there, an absolute rock at the back, keeping Man Utd shut out.

    Fernando – 8 – Rolled back the years with his defensive midfield performance, summed up by a perfectly-timed tackle on Sancho in the Sevilla box. There was no getting past him.

    Ivan Rakitic – 9 – Speaking of rolling back the years, Rakitic absolutely ran the show. The game was played at his pace and how he wanted it to be played, he could have beat the Man Utd midfield on his own. This was Rakitic at his best and he’ll be hoping this season ends with yet another Europa League trophy.

    Lucas Ocampos – 8 – Thought he had made it 2-0 in the first half with a beautiful touch and finish but it didn’t count due to an offside earlier in the move. However, Ocampos was a constant attacking threat and gave Man Utd’s defence real problems. He then did his bit as a defensive forward in the second half as Sevilla were happy to sit back.

    Youssef En-Nesyri – 9 – Back in the starting XI after coming off the bench at Old Trafford, En-Nesyri took just eight minutes to show why he is the man with a calm finish capitalising on the defensive error. Produced another good first-time finish in the second half after another error, but En-Nesyri was about more than just his goals. He was the focal point of the attack Man Utd wish they had, the long balls practically stuck to him, and his hold-up play was fantastic.

    Erik Lamela – 8 – Great press to force Maguire mistake and he was snapping at the heels of pretty much every Man Utd defender whenever they had the ball. Just as good in the second half when Sevilla needed him to sit a little deeper and do more off the ball.

    Substitutes:

    Suso (for Marcao 29) – 7 – Missed a shot in the first half having been played in by Lamela but he was very dangerous.

    Bryan Gil (for Lamela 80) – N/A – A late sub.

    Alex Telles (for Acuna 85) – N/A – A late sub against his parent club.

    Man Utd

    David de Gea – 3 – There were some questions asked of his role in the opening goal, and whether he could have passed to someone else or if his pass was poor. But he was definitely at fault for the third goal, coming well out of his area to try and take down a high ball, giving the ball straight to En-Nesyri. “Possibly one of his worst performances in a Man Utd shirt,” Robbie Savage said on commentary.

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6 – Was a strange choice to come off at half time as he had been managing very well despite being the busier full-back. Won more duels than any other player in the first half including all three of his aerial contests.

    Victor Lindelof – 5 – Could hold his head up high as those around him folded. This defeat and defensive performance was not on him.

    Harry Maguire – 3 – It never rains but it pours. Maguire wouldn’t have been on the pitch were it not for injuries and, always under the microscope for his mistakes, the Englishman had a howler inside 10 minutes. Asked for the ball from De Gea but he wasn’t ready to receive it, looking one side but not the other, where his attempted pass was intercepted by Lamela. He wasn’t done any favours by the pass, but Maguire must take a lot of the blame in what was another poor night.

    Diogo Dalot – 6 – Didn’t have too much to do in the first half as the attack was down the other flank and did okay after switching to the right. One of a few players who looked decent.

    Christian Eriksen – 3 – The wrong kind of non-existent, the complete antithesis of what Bruno Fernandes brings to the Man Utd midfield. Just not at it at all.

    Casemiro – 4 – His passing was bizarrely poor in the first half and he was lucky not to be punished for a misplaced pass which led to Ocampos’ disallowed goal. Procuded a crucial block to stop a Rakitic rocket but was then beaten in the air by Bade for the second.

    Marcel Sabitzer – 3 – The first-half hero last week, Sabitzer was practically non-existent in the midfield, though perhaps you could forgive him as he has struggled with injuries in the past week. Nevertheless, he had the fewest touches in the first half and just about beat De Gea by the time he was taken off. Completed just 60% of his passes, the worst accuracy of any Man Utd player.

    Antony – 6 – The only Man Utd attacker to come out looking good but Man Utd didn’t get the ball to him enough. Did eventually lose his head a bit vs Acuna as he did in the first leg, with the game well out of his control.

    Anthony Martial – 5 – Tried to pull the Sevilla defence as he did very well in the first half but the spaces he was leaving were not filled well by his teammates, so he was just kept out of the game. Had to come off within 10 minutes of the second half due to injury.

    Jadon Sancho – 3 – Just like in the first leg, Sancho really wasn’t a threat at all and was taken off at half-time. Man Utd need him to get out of his seriously poor run of form.

    Substitutes:

    Marcus Rashford (for Sancho 45) – 5 – Sadly not 100% and didn’t really add too much after half-time time despite Man Utd being allowed more time on the ball.

    Luke Shaw (for Wan-Bissaka 45) – 5 – Came in at left-back but didn’t make the defence any worse or better.

    Wout Weghorst (for Martial 54) – 4 – Had 15 touches in his time on the pitch, offering practically nothing.

    Fred (for Sabitzer 68) – 5 – Had a bit more presence than Sabitzer but the game was gone by the time he came on.

    Anthony Elanga (for Eriksen 87) – N/A – A late sub.
