The agent of Robin Gosens has explained why his client turned down a bumper wage package at mege-rich Newcastle United in favour of moving from Atalanta to Inter Milan.
The Italian champions have reportedly agreed a deal for the Germany international having highjacked Newcastle’s offer, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealing the move is an initial loan with an obligation to buy for €25m, plus ons.

Gosens, who has been sidelined since September with a hamstring problem, was a star at Euro 2020 for Germany and has attracted the interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, owing largely to his blistering form for Atalanta over the last few seasons.
Since joining Gian Piero Gasperini’s side in 2017/18, Gosens has scored the second-most goals of any wing-back across Europe’s top five leagues, striking 25 times in 121 Serie A games. He’s also registered the seventh-most assists in that timeframe for wing-backs (17).
Gosens’ representative, Paolo Busardo, was recently spotted visiting Inter’s headquarters earlier this week and was quizzed on his way out as to why his client rejected a potential move to the Premier League.
“Because it’s Inter,” he responded.
“We hope it can be the right solution for him.”
Gosens should have few issues translating his Bergamo form to the San Siro, with Simone Inzaghi espousing a similar wing-back system to the one he’s used to under Gasperini, turning out on the left, a similar role he also adopted for Germany at Euro 2020.
In fact, only Steven Zuber (three) was directly involved in more goals than Gosens (two) among defenders during the group stages of the summer tournament, registering an assist and scoring in his nation’s 4-2 win over Portugal.
Inter also signed another wing-back star of Euro 2020 in the form of Dutchman Denzel Dumfries in the summer, and Inzaghi will be hoping the duo can form a devastating partnership to really shore up the Nerazzurri‘s flanks and offer explosive attacking energy.
