Renato Sanches says he is “ready” to leave French champions Lille

Lille midfielder Renato Sanches says he has spoken with his agent and is now “ready” to make another big move.

The 2016 Golden Boy winner has reinvigorated his career at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy after he failed to live up to expectations at Bayern Munich, and endured an infamously poor loan spell with Swansea City in the Premier League.

Since relocating to Hauts-de-France, the 32-capped Portugal international has rebuilt his reputation as a combative and technically-superb midfielder, helping Les Dogues historically usurp PSG as Ligue 1 champions last season.

Despite his success in France, the 24-year-old feels that now is the right time to test himself in a new environment, and he says talks have already taken place with his representative over a possible move, amid strong interest coming from Arsenal and Milan.

Sanches told L’Equipe: “Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know.

“I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but I can’t tell now. I know I’m ready.

“If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me.”

Sanches also went on to discuss his stint at Bayern Munich, having joined the German heavyweights following his success in helping Portugal win Euro 2016 and a breakthrough campaign at Benfica, but he believes the imposing heights of Bavaria came too soon in his career.

He continued: “When I arrived at Bayern, I was not ready to play in such a club. I was very young [18], and when I got ready, the opportunity to play with this team never came.

“Today I feel ready. I understand football better, I have more experience, I know what to do to play in this kind of club and that changes everything.”

Sanches moved to Lille in 2019 for a fee believed to be in the region of €25m. Since joining Les Dogues from Bayern, he has played a key role in helping the club win their fourth Ligue 1 title, as well as securing a first ever Trophee des Champions, finishing runners-up in 2011 and 1955.
