Nottingham Forest vs Brentford prediction, stats, tips & team news

Nottingham Forest get their 2025-26 Premier League campaign underway against Brentford at the City Ground on Sunday 17th August at 2pm. The Tricky Trees will be looking to build on their seventh-placed finish from last season. Brentford are embarking on life after Thomas Frank.

Double Chance: Brentford/Draw (8/11 with BetMGM)

Brentford are unbeaten in their three Premier League trips to the City Ground, drawing two and winning one. It’s a great record for the Bees and one they’ll be keen to continue, especially on the opening weekend of the season. Nottingham Forest qualified for the Europa League last season and will have to manage expectations with both the league and European campaigns coming into view.

Chris Wood to score anytime (7/4 with Betfred)

Chris Wood scored 11 goals at the City Ground in the Premier League last season. Only four players netted more home goals in the English top flight. It was a great season for Wood and he’ll be charged with leading the line for Nottingham Forest again. He certainly enjoyed playing at home last season, something he’ll be looking to carry on, especially in a World Cup year.

How both teams go into Nottingham Forest vs Brentford

For a long time it looked like Nottingham Forest would be securing a top four finish last season. The Tricky Trees defied expectations under Nuno Espirito Santo to throw themselves right into the European conversation. But a poor run at the end of the campaign meant Forest had to settle for seventh. That was still enough to secure European football, though, with Forest qualifying for the Conference League.

Part of Forest’s struggles towards the end of the campaign was their poor home run. Espirito Santo’s side were winless in their final four games at the City Ground, losing three. Overall, Forest took 32 points from their 19 home games in the league with nine wins, five draws and five defeats. That’s one point fewer than they won on the road.

It’s a new dawn for Brentford. Keith Andrews has taken the reins at the Gtech Community Stadium following Frank’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur. Not many people will know what to expect from Andrews, who is taking his first step into management. The aim will be to improve on Brentford’s 10th-placed finish in the league last season, with the Bees nine points behind their opening day opponents.

Brentford’s away form last season started terribly, with the Bees winless in their opening nine games on the road — losing seven. But they turned things around and eventually looked better away from home than they did at the Gtech. The Bees won seven of their final 10 away games, including one at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest team news

Nicolas Dominguez is expected to miss the start of the season, having undergone surgery on a knee injury in the summer. He’s the only player missing for Nuno Espirito’s side though with the rest of the squad available for selection.

Brentford team news

Vitaly Janelt will be unavailable for selection until September whilst Ethan Pinnock will also miss out. Kevin Schade and Caoimhin Kelleher should be available for selection following small injuries but Yoane Wissa won’t be available following the disruptive pre-season the want-away striker has endured.

Nottingham Forest vs Brentford head-to-head

Nottingham Forest have won just one of their past eight games against Brentford across all competitions. The Bees have won three of the six meetings in the Premier League, alongside two draws.
