Newcastle vs Arsenal team news
Newcastle can welcome Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar back into the fold after both of those players missed the first-leg of this tie through suspension.
The Guimaraes return is particularly useful for Eddie Howe as Joellinton was withdrawn during Saturday’s defeat to Fulham in the Premier League with a knee injury and could miss out again here.
Harvey Barnes will continue to miss out, but the Magpies may be able to call upon Callum Wilson here after the striker returned to training from a thigh injury last week.
Arsenal have four long-term injuries to first-team players to contend with, as Bukayo Saka continues to miss out with a thigh injury and Gabriel Jesus will miss the remainder of the season after damaging his ACL in the Gunners’ FA Cup defeat to Manchester United last month.
Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White will be back in the fold sooner than those two, but will continue to miss out on Wednesday night.
Arsenal to call upon youngsters to overcome first-leg deficit?
Lewis Myles-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have become key components of this Arsenal team over the last few weeks, with both players getting themselves on the scoresheet in Arsenal’s 5-1 mauling of reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday.
Nwaneri was introduced off the bench in the closing stages as a replacement for Leandro Trossard, so should be fresh enough to start at St James’ Park as Mikel Arteta will look to ensure his team start on the front foot in their search to bring parity to the scoreline.
With Raheem Sterling flattering to deceive in his time at the Emirates Stadium so far and Bukayo Saka set for another couple of months on the sideline, Nwaneri has the chance to show Gunners fans exactly what he’s capable of in the coming weeks having displayed flashes of brilliance so far.

Aged just 17, Nwaneri already has seven first-team goals to his name this season including three in this competition and after his sumptuous finish against the Citizens on Sunday he’ll come into this match brimming with confidence.
Myles-Kelly has been a success story in his own right and will be equally delighted with his display against City, backing up his goal with a 92% pass success rate and two tackles as his side ran riot.
These two young starlets will need to bring the same no fear approach to this tie if Arsenal are to stand a chance of reversing the scoreline after a below-par first leg showing leaves them with work to do on Tyneside.
